If TZ Sells Their 738s...

Fri Aug 27, 2004 2:42 am

Well, I flew up to MSP a couple weeks ago on TZ and my return ticket to DFW is booked in December. Of course, TZ wasn't my first choice--I would've rather flown on a 'major,' but since the dates of my outbound and return flights were over 30 days I didn't have much of a choice but to fly an LCC. ATA wasn't too bad, I guess the service was pretty much average for any flights between Dallas-Chicago-Minneapolis. Now, if TZ sells their 738s, I assume that they will axe the DFW-MDW and MSP-MDW routes. What are the chances that another carrier will endorse my ticket especially if FL doesn't pick up the 738s and the Midway routes? Will I basically be S.O.L. and have to buy a one-way ticket back to DFW in December? Just wondering. I'm not really worried about it because I could always buy a really cheap OW ticket on SY, but of course I'd rather not buy a ticket when I already have one.

What could have been done to improve your travel experience on the way up? MSP and DFW are both great cities for ATA and I know folks who work at each station.

If TZ ceases operations by December (unlikely) any other airline flying the route will accept your ticket for standby travel at a fee not to exceed $25. This is mandated by the DOT per FAA reauthorization legislation passed by Congress, IIRC.

Not much. The flights were both pretty good, the leather seats were great, and the in-flight 'meal' was pretty much the norm for any morning flights between those two cities. The flights were very un-LCC like--which is a good thing. The lady who was checking my bags at DFW was a little rude, but then again I was checking my huge, heavy hockey bag and hockey sticks. So its understandable.

Thanks for the info Jjbiv, at least I know I won't have to fly Sun Country  Smile

'''and have to buy a one-way ticket back '''

I doubt is needed, like they explained before, but if it is you can always buy a cheap return ticket and just not use the return flight. Return tickets are often cheaper then one-way, at least it is in Europe.

Just to let you know "Jcs17," ATA is a major airline now. We're not ceasing operations either. The media keeps saying that ATA is leaving MDW, and we're not. As a matter of fact, starting on the 27th of August, ATA is starting a promotion strictly called, "We're not leaving Midway promotion." ATA will still be around, and we're probably not going to get rid of the 738s. The airline just needs some restructuring, thats all.

I've seen this discussed many times here...........the old TZ going out of business rumor again.........too funny. Like Chicago757 states they just need some restructuring.

Anyhow.........how can TZ sell planes it leases?????? All they can do is return them to lessor. Then where will they be?
