"But don't ILFC have to order 4 to meet their AirNZ requirement?
No. As it stands today, ILFC have 9 'open' delivery slots: 2 w/ GE90s, 2 w/ PW4000s, and 5 w/ Trent 800s. Therfore, there does not have to be a new ILFC order to cover their contract with ANZ. BTW - just for those curious, despite the Trent's success on the 777, these are the first -200ER frames ILFC has leased to anybody with RR
engines. Just a future trivia question. . .
"Boeing stated that they expect 2 new 777 customers this year and that was after the AirNZ order.
Indeed. Unfortunately, I don't think we are any closer to knowing who was being referred to than we were at Farnborough. Personally, I would say Hainan and AeroMexico. However, I think there are a few others with outside shots, including but not limited to: Air India, Air Pacific, Ethiopian Airlines, Harmony Airways, Qatar Airways, Aer Lingus, Martinair, Biman Bangladesh, and - a long-shot but still possible - Jet Airways.
As far as a possible CX
777-300ER order/lease - it's anybody's guess. Though there have been strong indicators CX
was close to acquiring the aircraft, to me it still remains a 50/50 chance.
