Island Air/ Cayman Airways Showdown

Fri Aug 27, 2004 8:55 am

ISland Air has some very valid points really. But i also think that they dont have very creative management. There are a million things that they could do to try and reduce losses and increase profits. Why dont they try to serve the GCM-Santiago de Cuba route? or a GCM-CYB-KTP or GCM-CYB-NEG? All they need is one Dash 8-100 and they could operate those twice weekly and still be able to operate another route. that may or may not be very feasable in real life, but they have only shrunk and stagnated since the day they began.

Island Air Operations Manager Marcus Cumber vows that the family-owned airline will continue on despite what he believes are anti-competitive practices from the Government that threaten company’s profitability. Since early this year, Island Air has been competing with Cayman Airways’ Cayman Express with regularly scheduled flights to the Sister Islands, routes it had serviced alone since 1991
