Sat Aug 28, 2004 3:59 am

What type of access does the airport have to get close and photo the stored planes? Are there any spotting locations around the airport?

Thanks for any help.

They store planes too at Roswell? I thought that place was only for storing captured UFO's and/or aliens...

Unless, those are really UFOs disguised as airplanes. Hmmm...

They don't have a detailed section on ROW yet, but do have a database on what's there. When it comes to the storage facilities in NV, AZ, and NM, they've got it down pretty good.

Currently they are storing and scrapping the UPs 727s there.

I was there in April of this year...some of our 727's were up against the fence and engines were being removed. All aircraft can be seen very clearly but access to them would be difficult.
Arrow Air had several L-1011's and stretch DC-8's there too. Definitely worth the trip, the people are friendly and the aliens are cute, too.

what was wrong with all those 767s that they were being scrapped?

It's highly unlikely those 767's are being scrapped. It's likely they are being stored for resale or reuse.

They would probably face the axe as they are not ER versions. The shorter range isn't exactly a good selling point.

American may decide, however, to re-commission them at some stage. A good sign is that they don't appear to have been cannibalised or de-engined so far.

AA has stored 14 767-200s in Roswell. 8 are the standard version, and 6 are the -ER variant. They were stored to reduce capacity, and are the oldest 767s in the fleet. AA has stated they would like to return them to service if the market warrants it in the future, but I'm not holding my breath.
