LH Abandons Lille

Sat Aug 28, 2004 10:21 am

Don't know if it was already posted, but LH has abandoned Lille. Its not flown since beginning of August but I thought it is only over the summer vacations. Now I read on a German forum that they will not come back.

Seems that with the KLM/AF merger nobody has a change in France anymore.

more than AF/KLM, I think Lille's position on HIgh speed trains network kills the market.
And being between CDG and BRU, Lille Lesquin has never been a major pax airport. Just a good regional airport

'Abandons' is a very strong and subjective word. Isn't it usual to just say an airline has 'withdrawn' from a particular route?

Does anybody have an idea how the load factor on those flights was?

Greetings

Trident, it may be a cultural thing. In French (at least) the word "abandon" can be less strong a word than in English. Yes the poster is German or from Germany but I thought I'd give my two cents any way as I, as a Frenchman, was not shocked by the use of that word.  Big grin

Skyteam10001 - perhaps you're right. To my English ears it did sound a little harsh, but others might have thought nothing of it.

OK guys, I looked at my my dictionary http://dict.leo.org/ and it gives around 50 translations for the vern to abandon. And one translation is "beenden" which means to end in German, and thats quite exacty what I meant with to abandon.

So sorry for sounding too harsh, that was not my intention.

Well, now we know what the exact meaning of abandon is and if it can sound harsh or not, but we still don't know why it was abandoned and how the flight loads were....
