LH Lower Deck Lavs (A340-600)

Sat Aug 28, 2004 8:50 pm

How are the lower deck lavs working out for Lufthansa? I noticed on their seat maps that they have two main deck lavs located in the very aft portion of the cabin and was curious as to how congestion around and on the stair case leading to the other 5 lavs was.

Also, does LH have a galley down there as well--it is not reflected on the seat map. (any pics?)

Thanks,

If its like the 5 lavs in the belly of My Travel (Airtours) 332s then it should be fine.

They can get congested at times especially that, for safety reasons, there cannot be more than 3 people at any time waiting downstairs. You cannot wait on the staircase either, as a result the galley upstairs gets really congested with passengers waiting to pee, while the FA's are trying to work. For the FA's this is most annoying and they are not very happy with it. The lavs look great though.

Phaeton--

Thank you for the pic! Where is that in relationship to the lavs and the stairs? Located aft?

Quite a lot of carts down there--approx. 16 full sized? Do those house the second service for Business?

FLY77UAL, the galley in the picture looks like the aft galley, which is indeed very spacious. The other galley I was talking about is located right around the exit from the lavatories and is very cramped, especially when there's a ton of passengers waiting for the lavatories downstairs.

Yeah--the galley you were talking about is visible in one of the cabin pics. Just the three carts and few carrier boxes facing forward into the YC cabin.

Just seems like an unbelievably large galley considering there are already 14 carts in the aft galley!!

LH has three seating variations onboard their -600 aircraft--does the lower lobe galley change with the configurations?

FLY777UAL - this image shows where the lavs are

To left of the stairs there is a lift - must be the lift to the galley.

Try also to have a look at http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=247483. If I'm not wrong, then the dark grey area under the ceiling to the right of the lift must be the stairs.

These pictures also illustrates the location in the a/c.

we have a bit of the doors for the lift in the lower right corner. Since the lift are made for trolleys the doors do not need to be that high.

This PDF-file from Airbus might also be of interest. The title is "Cabin Technology – Travelling by Airplane in the 21st century - Aircraft-Layout and Cabin Design".

This seems pretty basic to me. Did'nt the cabin layout engineers thnk of this?
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
