Domestic Flights With International Configuration

Mon Aug 30, 2004 8:59 am

Does anybody know of any regularly schedueled flights which are flown by internationally configurated aircraft. I can think of Delta's 772 MCO-ATL and 763 from ATL-JFK. Any others?

UA flies intl configured aircraft domestically all the time. Usually on the following city pairs

ORD IAD ORD 767-300 777-200 (some times they schedule a 747-400)

ORD DEN ORD 777-200 767-300 (and the 747-400 in Ski season)

ORD SFO ORD 777-200 747-400 767-300

ORD LAX ORD 767-300 747-400 (usually gets the 777-200 when the 747 goes to DEN in the winter)

ORD SEA 777-200

IAD DEN IAD 777-200 767-300 (occasionally they slip in a 747-400)

IAD SFO IAD 777-200 767-300 (occasionally they slip in a 747-400)

IAD LAX IAD 777-200 767-300 747-400

DEN SFO DEN 777-200 767-300 (usually gets 747-400 for ski season)

DEN LAX DEN 767-300 777-200 (usually gets 747-400 for ski season)

SEA DEN 777-200

LAX JFK LAX 767-300

SFO JFK SFO 767-300

****just as a note some aircraft above also have domestic configurations that also operate on those routes but all routes above have at least one intl configured aircraft of that type on each route named****

I could be wrong but I think AA dose now or use to operate a 777 from ORD to DFW.

US Airways flies a 767 on CLT-PHL-CLT, CLT-PIT, and PIT-PHL.

CO has 2 762's, a 764, and a 777 on IAH-EWR, a 762 on EWR-LAX-EWR, and a handful of the BizElite-equipped 752's running around.

DL used to fly a 767 with BizE out to SAN once a day. I took the return last summer after the Rock'n'Roll marathon out there.

American's reconfigured (2-class) 767-300/ERs are used on LAX/SFO-JFK,ORD and MIA flights.

I'm sure there are others, but that's all that I can of at the moment.

I believe that US still flies an A333 PHL-SJU-PHL. I suppose that is quasi-domestic.

US Airways flies a 767 on CLT-PHL-CLT, CLT-PIT, and PIT-PHL.
They also flew a 767 down to MCO daily this past summer.

AA also occasionally uses 777s on domestic runs, and tomorrow, a NWA 332 is doing MSP-PDX-MSP.

I believe AC operates the Airbus Widebodys domestically as well. YYZ to YVR as I recall is one of those routes. Not as familiar with AC as I am with others.

DL has one 763 from JFK to LAX, all others on that route are 757s. They used to be 762s so International like the A/C that fly JFK to Europe.

You're right. The MCO trips completely slipped me. PHL-MCO and CLT-MCO-CLT.

Your question needs a bit more elaboration. If you mean international fleet doing domestic sectors, Air India, Pakistan International, Thai International all fly a lot of domestic sectors with their international fleet. But if you mean product standard-wise, then I'd say, try Jet Airways or Air Sahara (predominantly domestic carriers within India) if you want to see what international standards in terms of inflight service truly means.

Iberia uses several International configured aircraft to the Canary Islands like the Airbus A-340-300/-600 and the Boeing 747-200/-300-/400.

last year have flown on the A-340-600 and the 747-300.

Bye, Georg.

In parts of the world outside the US where there sometimes is a border and a new country/culture/language every couple of kilometers, you can see two distinct cases:

1) domestic config = international config

This is the case for LH, LX, TK, MH and also for Air France's domestic flights from CDG, that all have C class when operated by Airbus or 737, which is not the case for the domestic flights operated from ORY (only Y).

2) domestic config = intercontinental config

- Air France sometimes schedules 747-400 (no kidding) for flights between Paris and Corsica. But this happens only at super peaks, i.e. start or end of vacation period.
- Iberia (on the BCN-MAD-BCN and on MAD-Canary Islands, as mentioned above)
- Qantas, using 747-400s on SYD-MEL and SYD-BNE
- South African, using 747s and 340s on CPT-DUR
- Saudia using 747s and 777s on domestic routes, primarily to/from JED and RUH
- Garuda on CGK-DPS with 747-400s and A330-300s
- Thai on BKK-HKT and BKK-CNX
- Malaysia on KUL-Kota Kinabalu
- Air China, where I have taken an intercont. configured 747-400 on PEK-Shanghai. I am sure there are many more routes within China
- is China/Hong Kong domestic? If yes, then all the CX and KA flights have the same config on domestic traffic and in international/intercont. traffic

Aeroflot uses its IL-96, TU-134, TU-154, A319, and remaining 737 aircraft interchangeably on internal and external routes.

AA's 777s from DFW-MIA, DFW-ORD, and DFW-LAX are 3 classes, but obviously the "business class" is part of coach on these routes (which is awesome.)

Delta flies a 767-400ER from TPA-ATL. Not sure it's INTL configuration though. Very nice plane.

No Delta 767-400 is in international config...it's all standard domestic F.

AA has a daily 777 running between DFW and LAX...I could have booked them (and probably should have in hindsight) for my trip to LAX in 10 days, but I instead chose to go DL (partially because the return flight better suited my needs).
