L1011 Flight Within Europe?

Mon Aug 30, 2004 7:41 pm

Hi,
I would like to fly a L1011 before they are all retired. Does anyone of you know if there are any L1011s that operate european routes? I live in northern Italy, and the best for me would be a L10 operated out of MXP. Any advice?

Thanks a lot

At least these guys are still flying it: http://www.euroatlantic.pt/ and http://www.airluxor.com/ but only charters!
So take a vacation to Faro... I guess that's the best bet!?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong!?  Big thumbs up

"Yes Air Charter" (also Portugal-based) is another L15-operator in Europe. All of these airlines operate no scheduled intra-European flights though. Your best chance is to get on a football charter flight, because these seem to be the kind of operation, which still sees the TriStars deployed within Europe.

Hi!!

Here in Portugal, L1011 are frequent views, fortunately. But at the moment not a single one is operating, due to mechanical malfunctions. Of the four, CS-TMX from YES should be the first to be back in service, in a few weeks.

A round-up of operators and destinations (From LIS):
- EuroAtlantic: CS-TEB. Status unknown, heard talks about a compressor stall.
- Air Luxor: CS-TMR and CS-TMP. Both sufferend compressor stalls, in AMS and CUR. Currently under repairs.
- Yes Linhas Aereas Charter: CS-TMX. Suffered a compressor stall two weeks ago on take off from SSA (eng. no. 2), ferried back empty to LIS on two engines and is currently under repairs at TAP maintenance facilities.

Yes operates from LIS to Brazil, Punta Cana and Cuba. The two LK were leased to Dutch Caribbean for the summer.

Intra-european flights are nearly impossible to catch. They only do charters and even so it is very dificult to guarantee you will be on a L1011.

If you really want a ride in a L1011, try contanting directly YES, via: http://www.yes-charter.pt/English/contacts.html and get a flight to Brazil or Punta Cana. they are not that expnesive in October / November, and 10hrs in a L1011 sound nice  Smile

Best regards
Luis

Luis

Portugese L1011's seem to be prone to Compressor Stalls.

Is there a common factor.

Hi,

Yes, this was a very difficult summer for our aging L1011s.
I really can't find a reason for all those compressor stalls, since I'm no expert, but I've read somewhere the L1011 is quite prone to this kind of failure.

Sure, these planes are aging, but they are a pleasure to fly. Maintenance is done in TP facilities, and should be top notch (all four L1011 came from TP) and the fact is that these are very reliable planes.

Just YES L1011, CS-TMX, just before the compressor stall in SSA, had spent about 3 weeks flying 20 hours a day, 7 days per week, each flight being a cross-Atlantic return journey without a single problem.

To IDAWA: counting on football charters is a very long shot. Last Champeons League Final with Porto, they were 42 charters, and only three were L1011. And I know form a friend who went on one of those flights, that at the time of booking they give you no guarantee whatsoever about the aircraft that you will fly. My friend hoped for a L1011 and got a B742 instead... not that he minded much.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I saw a Euro Atlantic L-1011 in DUB in early July, but I still have not figured out where it was going to. It was such a treat to see it!
