Any International Flights By US From FLL As Well?

Mon Aug 30, 2004 11:12 pm

Probably this is hidden in a number of other posts, just couldn't find one, so please bear with me: with US opening FLL as a new hub, will it also offer international flights out of FLL? Does FLL have the necessary infrastructure? After all, I think there would be a market, the S. Florida O&D market is huge.

Adding to my own post: I know that FLL has the necessary runway length, it had SAA operating 747-400s from there, but what does it look like in terms of terminal gates etc?

From what it looks like in the pictures, FLL on this pace will soon run out of gate space. What are the opinions of the locals?

In the last five years fll has gone from 39 gates to 57 and that number could increase in the future. I think there have been talks of adding several gates on to the end of concourses E and F if i'm not mistaken and the future still has drawing plans that show the massive international terminal in the area of terminal 4 and then also a concourse A that will have 5 gates. Though right now it looks like the main concern is the runway.

i think i read somewhere that US might do FLL-panama. also they might start service from FLL to some of the carribean cities that they already fly to from CLT and PHL. But i highly doubt that US will start any transatlantic flights from FLL, if they do, then more power to them, but its way too early for that at the moment.

it had SAA operating 747-400s from there

...course, the only departure said 744s operated from there was to ATL, a distance of only 505nm

This information *really* shouldn't be that difficult to find.

Anyway, internationally from FLL, US Airways will be serving BDA, CUN, GUA, KIN, PTY, SAL, SDQ, SJO, and SJU. US Airways Express will serve NAS and PLS.

All flights will be daily beginning in February, except NAS and SJU which will be 3x daily, and BDA which already operates, and is seasonal and 2x weekly. CUN begins on Saturdays on October 16, then converts to daily in February.

GUA, KIN, PTY, and SAL are new to the US Airways system. The other 7 cities have service from other U.S. gateways, including PHL, CLT, BOS, LGA, DCA, BWI, IAD, and MCO.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.
