American Airlines B. 707-100B's And B.720B's.

Hi!

I tried to check it out if there are any visual differences between both models that American used to fly in the past. Although we can see that all the B. 720B's they had didn't have the HF antenna in the tail, there were also some of their B. 707-100B's that didn't have them either, now how could you see the difference? By the registration or maybe looking to their wing roots or maybe the slats that both had. It looks to me that the B. 720B's had more slats than the old generation B. 707-120B's, is that true?

American 707-100B aircraft (and all 707-100, -200, -300 and -400) had two overwing exits on each side:

...but with any good Boeing there are exceptions to the rule.

I believe Eastern had their 720s delivered with 4 overwing exits (unfortunately my source book is at home and I am at work). Another means of checking, depending on the model, is the number of turbocompressors. 720s for sure had 2... the bigger 707s had 3, but there were exceptions to that rule as well. Search in tech/ops using "707 engine pylons" to be sure, it has been discussed in detail over there.

The 701 was slightly longer. 7 windows in front of the wing. The 720 had only 6.

I thought only the 707-320B/C had 3 turbocompressors? I know there were exceptions as you said.

Another way to tell is by the registration number. American had 56 707-123s, 46 707-323s, 1 707-385 & 25 720-023s. Here's a link to all of AA's 707/720 registrations. http://www.geocities.com/~aeromoe/fleets/aa.html

DESERTJETS is correct on the EA 720's and the exit windows. Proctors book on the Boeing 720 points that out. The planes were ordered with high density 142 seat all coach seating, but EA never configured the 720's that way.

Very good point Justplanesmart!!!! That's indeed a great way to see the difference between both models from AA. Now regarding the 4 exits specially for EA that's true too!

...and what about the rear jet-escape-slide-exit?? which models operated with this feature??  Confused
