Additional Southwest Flights From MDW And LAX

Wed Sep 01, 2004 12:14 am

Just received the following in a News Alert from Southwest.

Are they trying to force ATA out, or making plans for ATA pulling out anyway?

Two additional daily nonstop flights between Chicago Midway and Los Angeles (for a total of five daily)
Two additional daily nonstop flights between Chicago Midway and Oakland (for a total of five daily)
One additional daily nonstop flight between Chicago Midway and Tampa Bay (for a total of five daily)
One additional daily nonstop flight between Chicago Midway and Orlando
(for a total of four daily)
One additional daily nonstop flight between Los Angeles and Sacramento
(for a total of ten daily)

TZ doesn't fly to Oakland or Tampa...................so I don't see an issue with those two cities ( as far as driving TZ out)

ATA fly to SFO and PIE. Both are alternate airports for OAK and TPA respectively. It just so happens that Southwest uses OAK and TPA for their flights.

I standby my original statement!

It sure sounds to me like Southwest is trying to force ATA out of those places in my opinion. Does anyone know if ATA is suffering any from their flights into RSW because of decreased tourism due to Hurricane Charley?

As long as they're adding more MDW-LAX flights but ignoring BUR and ONT as options, I still don't see any advantage using them when I can fly NW non-stop DTW-LAX, have a competitive fare, AND earn World Perks miles.

Call me back when they start doing MDW-ONT, or MDW-BUR, then I might be interested.

WN is adding service because they see demand, not due to trying to force ATA's hand. ATA and Southwest really don't overlap much out of MDW.
