Reno Air 8/31/99

Holy smokes!!!

Has it already been half a decade since Reno Air ceased ops and was folded into American?

I was also in SJC getting lots and lots of pics of all the transition schemes on this day 5 years ago.

Long live the Three Mountains.

Reno Air was always like a familiar friend to me in the airports. I flew them 4 times, and every flight was staffed with happy, upbeat, and very hospitable crews who always made the flight enjoyable.

Trust me, Matt, you're not the only one who misses Reno Air! Our passenger counts at RNO dropped from about 7 million a year to about 4 million a year because of the the AA buy-out. We are only now starting to get back anywhere close to those numbers. At first I was really mad at AA because of all the QQ flights they eliminated, but now I'm just happy to have AA here with several daily frequencies to both ORD and DFW.

Beginning Dec.1(I think), Delta is restarting mainline service to Reno, and on top of that, are adding it as a daily 757. That is certainly good news for RNO passengers, and for me, since I love Tahoe and miss mainline service to there.

Otto-- yes, you are correct. And the service is non-stop ATL. Other recent service additions: Once weekly CO to EWR and a second Aloha flight-- this one to Maui via BUR.

I remember the AA/QQ transition. I waited a week for the hybrids to appear [AA titles/logo on ex-QQ aircraft]. After giving up and returning to NYC on a TW 767, I arrived home to get an email from Richard Silagi with the first photo of an ex-QQ plane with an AA sticker on the tail.
