WN 732 Exhibit - Change Of Seats?

Wed Sep 01, 2004 10:56 pm

I have flown on Southwest 737-200 plane. I remember seating configuration: 3-3 (whole cabin).

But look at this picture of Southwest's retired aircraft (737-200):

The picture shows 2-2 seating configuration. Did WN modify the seats to better accomodate visitors to the cockpit viewing area? (picture shows 2-2 regular seats & wide open aisle)

I would like to visit the museum again. The plane was not there during my last visit.

It appears that the seating was changed. There is a similar display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle of a Southwest 737 that has 2-2 seating, but the seats looked like business seats.

Judging from other pictures of her, that portion in the museum was painted in the new colors before going up on display.

Maybe they removed one seat from each side to make it easier to get in and get out for people looking at the cut out display?

I was there in May, and it's not a SWA aircraft, but a US Airways aircraft...

OPNLguy - your input appreciated.

The above picture lists the aircraft as N102SW - a retired Southwest jetliner.. obviously not a US Airways aircraft registration #. Pretty confusing, indeed, lol.

Not confusing at all!

The US Air plane is at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, the Southwest plane is at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas.

OPNLGuy was correcting SafetyDude about the US Air aircraft in Seattle.

No prob; I was just pointing out that the one at the Museum of Flight was -not- a SWA aircraft as mentioned in reply #1...  Big grin

There is a similar 732 exhibit at BWI museum - a retired US Air 732 aircraft..

Anyway, I want to throw this right here: Is there a NWA DC-9 exhibit somewhere yet? IMO, there should be a few of them in the next few years.  Smile

Could the 2-2 seating have anything to do with the 50 seat aircraft SWA uses inside TX?

My Gawd! The secret is out...!  Big grin

(We don't have any 50-seat aircraft, just 122- and 137-seat ones.)

You may be thinking of the 56-seat limit needed to be able to ignore the Wright/Shelby Amendments and fly anywhere from Dallas Love. It's a moot point for us, as we comply and only have non-stops from DAL to MSY, LIT, OKC, TUL, and ABQ, and operate with the 122/137 seat aircraft.

Has the Frontiers of Flight Museum at DAL moved to its new digs yet, or is it still in the main terminal?

Sorry for the confusion. I knew that there was something clicking in my mind about having two WN planes on display.

Sorry again for any confusion.

No prob...

And to the Tom, yes, they've moved to their new location over on the SE side of the airport. I haven't been there yet, but I hear it's nice...

Gotta go now, I have a bunch of 50-seat intra-state aircraft I have to work...  Big grin
