DL's Domestic Routes With The 763ER

Thu Sep 02, 2004 9:29 pm

I know DL has a few routes they use the -ER equip on domestically, including SLC-JFK. My question is where does this aircraft come from so it's in SLC for the SLC-JFK run? What other routes are the -ER equipment flying?

A number of 767-300ERs go into JFK from international destinations, so a 763ER could easily do Europe-JFK-SLC-JFK-Europe, or it could terminate in SLC and another 763ER could take over and the original 763ER could go somewhere else.

Other domestic runs include:
ATL-FLL/MCO/Tampa
ATL-DFW
ATL-LAX

I recall flying with DL 763ERs to SFO and LAX.

The planes arrived in from different European locations (ATH, IST, BRU were the three I remember) and was prepared in couple hours for the continuing domestic flights.

Awhile back... before DL changed their BOM route to CDG from FRA, the flight was a same-plane service SLC-JFK-FRA-BOM and back.

A few years ago, DL had a same-plane SFO-JFK-MAD, of course on a 763ER.

I have seen 767-300ers here in DEN. I have flown one to SLC a couple of years ago.

That was likely just a 767-300.

I can't think of any reason why DL would have an ER going that way. They carefully schedule them on high-yielding routes, or to Florida when only a quick-turn is possible.

DL also flies the 763ER MSY-ATL during the fall through spring seasons.

Keep in mind that DL does operate 8 767-300 ERs (the N17XDZ series), these are configured in domestic configuration though (no BizElite)...this may have been what you saw Quickmover.

Back before 9/11, DL did do "in-between" turns with the 767-300 ER, BOS, BDL, and PHL come to mind.

17 months ago I flew from SLC to LAS on N177DZ - I was given the choice: going earlier on a Skywest Canadairjet or the 767, I was surprised to be boarded on a 767-332 ER as I did not think at that time that DL would operate them domestically (especially on such a short hop). However, flight was completely full, so its service was surely justyfiable.

Cheers

Delta operates next to the 767-300ER also the normal 767-300. If they have the non ER aswell, why dont they just use that one on short routs, for ex ATL-MSY. on What routes do they use the 767-300s then?

Thanks for the info on the -ERs. Those Biz elite seats are so much nicer than the regular first class

It's funny that DL still calls the front of the 763ER "Business Class" instead of First class when flying domestically since the "Business Class" is far superior to First Class..lol

You are right fanoftristars!!! The bizelite is so much nicer than the crappy domestic First on the 764s and 757s. The bizelite is the same price as the regular domestic seat on the JFK-LAX route too.

Delta flyes their Boeing 767-300's on a ton of routes. The last 5 flights of mine on Delta have been 767-300's. Delta operates a very extensive 767 route system in the USA.

I flew on one (N174DZ) from ATL to MIA last year. I might be wrong, but i think it was equipped with the regular domestic First Class seats.

I remember flying BDL-ATL on 763s that I believe have included the ER model as well.

DELTA767-300ER:

Most of DL's domestic 767-300 flights are the non-er aircraft, with only 24 first class seats instead of the 50 +/- Bus Elite seats. That's not what I was talking about. I was talking specifically about the -ER aircraft, configured with Biz Elite seats, that normally do transatlantic routes, but for one reason or another fly a few domestic segments.

An easy way to tell whether the flight is the BizElite 763ER or regular 763 is by the flight number. Any flight number between 1 and 199, and is operated by a 763, is the BizElite 763ER. Otherwise, all others are the domestically-configured 763 with 24F and 228Y seats.
