Continental In-flight Charges

Fri Sep 03, 2004 12:40 am

I am about to embark on my first Transatlantic trip on board a US carrier and looking through Continental's website - I was astonished to find that CO now charge for certain services on-board eg. alcohol and headsets?

Are these charges applied across their network since their website is a little vague about this. I am only interested as they seem to advice purchasing 'Continental Currency' for use on board. Will I need these for my glass of wine and/or headset for the crossing?

Seems rather 'tight' of CO if you ask me...

I think all US carriers charge for alcohol on board, in Y class anyway. I don't recall having had to pay for headsets on international flights before though.

As long as I can remember, Continental has charged for inflight alcoholic beverages and headsets in economy. On international flights, the headsets are provided free of charge and you can keep them for future use.

I flew CO economy earlier this year transatlantic. I don't drink when I fly, so I don't know about that, but the headset was free and can be used again.

It is United and Northwest that does not charge, all the others do charge for alcohol. I believe pre 9-11 none of them did (international only) and after, they saw it as a way to stem the red ink...

Continental charges $5.00 or EUR4.00 for Alcoholic beverages, as most U.S carriers do at the moment. Although the headsets are free of charge and you are even allowed to keep the headset for a future (Domestic) Flight.

Again I think that CO is the best U.S airline to fly with.

NWA does NOT charge for Alcoholic beverages or headsets on International Flights.

I sure hope that after next week when we join SkyTeam that does not change!

I'd rather they charge for booze and headsets than for food...
