Evil Spirit On Spirit

Mon Feb 28, 2000 4:29 am

You probably thought from the caption that I was launching a new tirade....this time with little Spirit Airlines as my victim...right? Well, eye fooled you!
Read this story, and tell me if you don't think that this individual should be locked up in a cage and fed dog food the rest of his life.
And by the way, he's from La Verne, not Laverne.
I know.. I used to live in La Verne.....
anyway...take a look.

An MD-80 jet from Los Angeles to Detroit was diverted to Denver February 25 after a passenger assaulted the flight crew and later accused them of practicing "black magic," authorities said.

Spirit Airlines Flight 714 made the unscheduled landing about 6.00 a.m. and remained on the ground while the FBI interviewed the crew and 89 passengers.

Passenger Tareq Kakish, 20, of Laverne, Calif., was arrested and charged with interference with a flight crew.

In the federal courthouse Friday afternoon, Kakish injured federal officers wrestling him into a holding cell.

The trouble began shortly after the MD-80 jet took off from Los Angeles en route to Detroit, said DIA spokesman Steve Snyder, who spoke with passengers.

"They told me this guy was just acting really strange. A couple of passengers thought he might have been on something," Snyder said. "They said he had been verbally abusive. One passenger said (Kakish) said to her, 'You're eating too loud.'"

After the pilot turned on the fasten-seatbelt sign, the man refused to take a seat and shoved a flight attendant, Snyder said.

The flight attendant summoned one of the pilots, who confronted the man as he stood in the back of the plane, said FBI spokeswoman Jane Quimby.

"Mr. Kakish ended up trying to hit the pilot" and he shoved the pilot against a wall, Quimby said.

Nobody was injured, but after the man returned to a seat the crew decided to make the unscheduled landing.

Denver police searched the plane with dogs but did not find any drugs or weapons.

During an interrogation, "he described the crew as evil and accused them of practicing witchcraft and black magic," Quimby said of Kakish.

Later, Kakish punched and bit several federal officers as they tried to place him in a holding cell at the federal courthouse in downtown Denver, where he was awaiting a hearing. He injured three federal officers, said U.S. Marshal Service Chief Deputy Larry Homenick.

It took eight officers more than 10 minutes to subdue Kakish before he was taken to Denver Health Medical Center Friday afternoon, where he was in fair condition, Homenick said.

"Shortly after he was brought in, he become combative, loud, uncontrollable and destructive," Homenick said. He tried to kick out a screen over a window in the cell. He was biting officers and he punched a female marshal. He was incredibly strong."

Kakish faces two counts of federal charges, including impeding a flight and assaulting and resisting federal officers.
