SAA Order To Be Announced On Thursday.

Mon Feb 28, 2000 8:45 am

SAA will announce on Thursday that it has selected the 737NG over the A320 for their domestic short haul operations. Now granted things could radically change by Thursday but the SAir group has given the order its blessing. Reports have the number of airframes being between 6-8. What model is still up in the air but either -700 or -800.

I wonder why Airbus didn't get the order? Anyone know?

Probably because the A 320 line is sold out. And boeing gave them the better price. It all comes down to price. The perfomances of boeings and airbuses are equal, both with pros and cons.

It was very surprising for the 737NG to be ordered because SAA already operates the A320. GATX a leasing company gave SAA a good deal on 737s. That was one of the deciding factors.
