For Those Who Like Russian/Soviet Aircraft...

Mon Sep 06, 2004 2:14 am

...would this take your fancy?

Day 1: fly LHR-SVO on an SU IL96.

Day 2: spend the day at SVO including a pleasure flight aboard one or two of the following aircraft;

Day 3: fly by Mil Mi-8AMT helicopter from SVO to BKO. Ramp tour of the airport. A pleasure flight or two in one or two of the following aircraft. Fly by helicopter to Zhukovsky. Ramp tour of airport and facilities. Return to SVO by the helicopter;

Day 4: fly by Mil Mi-8AMT from SVO to DME. Spend all day at the airport. Ramp tour of airport. A pleasure flight in an aircraft detailed below. Fly back to SVO on the helicopter;

Day 5: fly by the helicopter to VKO and spend the day at the airport. Ramp tour. A pleasure flight in one or two of the following aircraft. Fly back to SVO in the helicopter;

Day 6: fly by the machine to Ostafyevo. Ramp tour. Fly to Myachovo. Ramp tour. Fly to Chkalovskaya. Ramp tour. Return to SVO by the 'copter.

Day 7: depart for LHR on an SU IL96.

Pleasure flights in, say:

TU134
TU154
AN24
IL62
AN28
Yak 40
Yak 42
AN-38
KA-26
AN74

Each flight would last would last about an hour.

Trip would see you seeing and photographing plenty of Russian and Soviet aircraft and airlines, but also flying a number of different types of aircraft.

Would you prefer an all-inclusive price, so including flight from London, hotel, pleasure flights, or have the price exclude pleasure flights which you could select if you wanted to go on them?

Also, would you prefer to fly from SVO to each airport on the 'copter or fly once and then the rest of the days go by coach?

By the way, this is just for fun...

Sounds like a very good idea to me, but would it really be feasible? You cannot fit the same amount of people in a Yak 40 as you can in a Tupolev 154. Would be one hell of a trip though if it could be organized.

I'd love to fly on Russian and Ukrainian aircraft. My first choice, however, would be to fly aboard an old turboprop, say an Il-18 or an Il-24/26.

I would like to fly in a TU-204-120 sometime. Are there any western carriers other than Air Cairo (if they still exist) using them?
