AA Mainline Returns To CMH-ORD

Wed Sep 08, 2004 4:09 am

American Airlines has been cutting mainline in Ohio lately, but, effective 1 November 2004, will reintroduce mainline service on Columbus-O'Hare. The current ten daily American Eagle flights will become six daily American Eagle flights and two daily M80 flights.

Now there's a good way to help fix the ORD congestion problem and make customers happier.

Fly some larger aircraft, and cut a few frequencies.

Good news! The more RJs we get out of ORD, the better! Kudos to AA! Now do this on more routes!

Hi Mark...
Any word on DAY-MIA on Eagle?

It is one of the routes that was on the "possibility" list for this winter, and, from what I had heard, it was one of the first to be given the go. I don't know the official decission, but the winter timetable will be put up for booking on AA's website early Monday morning, so we will know by then.

This is GREAT news...... I was upset when I went to make my plans to be in CMH this year and couldn't get a AA mainline flight... KUDOS to AA for reducing the RJs at ORD.
Hey Obama, keep the change! I want my dollar back.

that means AA will have mainline service from CMH to DFW and from CMH to ORD soon... for a total of 5 M80s/day. (3 to DFW, 2 to ORD)

Yeah, reduce CLE to only RJ's and re-instate CMH with mainline jets.

Isn't CLE a higher market for AA?

AA is confusing me.

Correct. And it'll be neat to see more of AA's Super 80s here at CMH.

However, I don't see AA's move as having a big impact on competition for CMH flyers to the Chicago-area...if saving money is what they're looking for, they could always fly WN...plus there's always UA.

It's more of a preventative measure against congestion in ORD, as others have said.

But if I have to go to Chicago, I'm flying UA.

Not really. American has been significantly larger in Columbus than Cleveland for quite some time now. American and American Eagle currently fly 34 weekday departures to 7 cities from CMH compared to 18 Eagle flights to 3 destinations from CLE. With the additional mainline service, CMH's daily departures will drop to 32, however daily service to Miami might be on the way starting in the begining of next year.
