IB To Continue MAD-CAI Flights

Thu Sep 09, 2004 6:53 pm

Iberia have decided to make their Madrid-Cairo flights year round. They started the route in June, and initially planned to stop on September 20th, but have decided to continue the flights on a 2x weekly 757 basis due to the success of the route and greater than expected demand on their 3x weekly A320 MAD-BCN-CAI flights. According to Al-Ahram newspaper the MAD-CAI flights has averaged 81% in its 3 months of operations, which is very high for a new route.

Egyptair will also increase flights to MAD from the 5 to 7x weekly flights this winter with a mix of A320s and A300-600Rs.

Anxebla, Also many Egyptians are visiting Spain, especially Madrid and Palma de Mallorca.

In addition to MS and IB, most Egyptian and Spanish charter airlines operate regular charter flights between Cairo and Madrid (some are triangle routes). Here is a link to the flights between the cities:

I remember hearing rumours that IB are disposing of their 757s (some have already gone to RG). Is this still there plan?

Yes Horus..the B757 will be progressively phased out. As far as I know...one aircraft is already in RG colors and two more are in the hanger being prepared for RG I believe.

I hope I´ll still be able to fly on one of them on my trips to Holland. Always those A320s becomes somewhat boring... My dad is going to work in Nigeria shortly, they fly Madrid-Lagos with the 757 as well.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Why have they decided to dispose of the 757s, considering some of them are still quite 'new'?
