KLM's Fokker 50's

Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:24 pm

Just wondering how old these babies are and if there are any talks of replacing them?
What could the replacement then be?

How many of these do they have?

The oldest one was built around 1995.

So they still have quite a career ahead.

The Fokker 50 is a very strong and reliable aircraft and I´m sure KLM will keep flying them for years to come. Despite Fokker´s disappearance there still is a good maintenance program and spare sparts are guaranteed. It´s not without reason that Denim Air´s backbone is its F50-fleet. They operate Dash 8´s for Air Nostrum, but experience shows the F50 to be a better bet.

The Fokkers fleet in Europe is growing. Low cost carriers are picking up aircraft that are phased out early by US & AA and others.

KLM E&M provides full maintenance support for Fokkers at Schiphol, Norwich & Stansted..

I think we are seeing a second youth for the Fokker fleet. The are efficient aircraft available at very low prices at this moment..

Air France daughter Cityjet is also using F100´s..

As far as I know, they have 16 F50s at the moment.

The oldest one was built around 1995
Err no, KLM's oldest F50 was built in 1990, the newest one in 1993.
I don't know much about KLM's further fleet plans or how long they will keep them.

Air France daughter Cityjet is also using F100´s..
But you're aware that this is a BAe146 on your photo?! By the way, this topic is about KLM's F50s...

Nothing heard for a while about a F50 replacement. It's an almost identical situation as the rumours of the F50 replacement at VLM, some say it's a matter of time, other say that they'll wait a while (why replacing an aircraft which does its job well?). The candidates are EMB145 and CRJ with EMB145 probably having better papers.

Nope.... For the moment maintenance is done by Martinair and A and B checks by AS Light(which is Fokker services), other checks by Fokker services in Woensdrecht.
In the very near future though all maintenance of regional A/C will be done by Rams which is a new company formed by Fokker Services and KLM at the former Fokker plant, hangar 73 to be precise.

What comes to mind is 13 KLC and 20 KLC UK (I think, dont have my data sheet with me).
KL UK basically doesn't have any aircraft anymore, they are now all operated by KLC(KLM Cityhopper) that is why all regi's have been changed from G-... to PH-... on all F100, F70 and F50.

Nothing heard for a while about a F50 replacement. It's an almost identical situation as the rumours of the F50 replacement at VLM....
If they will be replaced it will be with newly build F70's as the owner of VLM is also the man behind Rekkof.
