Travel ADVISORY: Pending US Airways Strike

Tue Feb 29, 2000 1:19 pm

If you are planning on travelling on US Airways any time after March 1, my best advice to you is to NOT use an E-ticket.

In most situations, attempting to use an E-ticket on another carrier is almost impossible. The new carrier cannot look up the details of the ticket. When using a paper ticket, the new carrier has a written record of the cost, class of service, and dates of travel.

The bottom line, paper tickets might be a hassle up front, but if your flight gets cancelled, that paper ticket might save you hours in line at a ticket counter.

Uhhhh. Did you say March 1? Don't say March 1!! I'm E-ticketed PIT-PHX 3/2 and back 3/12 and assumed I'd be 'cool' since it is in the 'cooling off' period. Aw, man!

I do have a paper ticket for my April 1 trip from DCA-BOS, but it was one of those heavily discounted $69 roundtrip tickets for the US Airways Shuttle. As far as I know, no other airline offers this price. The Delta Shuttle doesn't fly this route nonstop, and they charge separate fares from DCA-LGA and LGA-BOS. No through fares. Because of the US Airways Shuttle special discount, would Delta be likely to let me use my ticket to double shuttle DCA-LGA-BOS?

Thanks, Naviator. I stand corrected. I didn't realize Delta flew this route, but according to their website, they do. Their fare is $193 against US Airways $69 for the days I am flying.

If you've already made reservations and you have an E-ticket, go to a city ticket office or to the ticket counter at the airport and ask them to print your flight coupons. It's pretty easy for them to do that.

There's no need to worry about switching to paper tickets unless you are flying 3/25 or later. No shutdown or strike can take place before then by law.

D L X, who is flying MHT-LAX and return 3/17-23

There's no need to start this nonsense about running in to exchange e-tickets for the real deal.

D L X, and anyone else who has been following this saga closely, knows that nothing can happen prior to March 25. By that date, barring an amenable agreement or Presidential injunction US will be grounded indefinitely to prevent CHAOS tactics by the APA union members.

3/25 and onwards is anyone's guess......

What are the rules for transferring fares from carriers to carrier?
Are lowest-fare, nonrefundable tickets also eligible or is that left to the discretion of whoever's left working at the US ticket counters?

Looks like the Delta Shuttle is about to get a lot more popular....

DCA-LGA (US Shuttle) 3/17
LGA-IAD (US Shuttle) 3/19

(Yup...too cheap to fly back into National)

Great!! I fly from MSP - CLT - CHS on the 25 of March E-Ticket. Return CHS - PIT - MSP on the 1st of April (A not so nice April Fools day joke from US if the strike happens)!
