Speaking Of Air Force One...

Tue Feb 29, 2000 2:38 pm

I am wondering why the VC-137/707 which carried Eisenhower thru Bush was never re-engined with the CFM56 engines for better fuel efficiency, power, climb, etc? Many of the Air Force KC135s were retrofitted, and this option was available back in the early '80s. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

Maybe the Air Force had a contract with Pratt & Whitney for maintenance and overhaul of it's turbofan engines.
