More Indy Air Point 2 Point Coming!

Sun Sep 12, 2004 5:31 pm

Just heard from internal sources that we are going to add more point to point. Adding 4 cities out of TPA all with RJs and 2 more out of MCO also with RJs. But shhhhhhhhhhh.....didn't hear it from me Smile

Horrible? How so? It's a pretty good system at this point, for a one hub airline. Sure it's not much use if you're going from SFO-LAX, but then neither is NW CO DL US FL B6 F9 TZ etc...

While I would love to see service n/s from Tampa to those cities, I am wondering the accuracy of your statement. I can see it though with rjs, now all they need is employees to get this show on the road. Also, looking at the list they compete with DL on the one route to Greensboro.

I think it is interesting that DH is choosing to compete with DL on several Florida routes but so far has avoided competition with US in CLT. While DL isn't in such hot shape either, US would certainly be the easier major to tangle with. I wonder if this is a gate space issue at CLT. Today's news could certainly take care of any problem that exists.

ERJ170, maybe once MSY gets going we'll see Independence start RDU-MSY. Hopefully they'll get down here before too long. United really gouges people going from here to Dulles.

The first Airbus city will if course be MCO followed by TPA and then to the west coast from there. Hopefully they will be able to compete against Ted and DL from MCO and TPA. And from Song out of MCO to LAX. Just a thought.

Oh great thats what we all need is more cancer! These LCC's are destroying this industry...Oh sure some snotty noised 2o year old will say great IFE, cheap fairs....But it sucks!

Just like wallmart and this president we have, our economy is never going to get better with wallmart and LCCs around! Minimum wage and low pay is never going to life the USA up to the greatness it deserves!

To the US people, My thoughts an prayers are with you right now...Good luck!

I give you time until you will want more money. I give you time until you are realizing, that your worth more. You will wake up one day, and demand that you deserve respect and money, yet your company will say differently!

I also give you time when your company will be out of money..your burning money like crazy.....Good luck!

NWAFA- It doesn't really matter what the company says we're union which means they have to negotiate. In fact we are in negotiations right now and things are looking pretty nice from where I sit. I stand by my previous statement. If there was no demand there would be no LCC's.

I say:
P2P
MCO:
FLL, JAX
TPA:
FLL, JAX, GSO, MCO

Airbus:
1 TPA
2 MCO
3 FLL JAX or LAX

Hey, the airline exectutive in my head is liking it! Isn't that all that counts?

NWAFA - That's a pretty poor attitude to have wouldn't you say? I'm surprised someone with your experience wouldn't have a better understanding of where the domestic U.S market is and where it's going. LCC's are the wave of the future (and the present), like it or not. And just because you and your NWA colleagues find that troubling doesn't mean that millions of people don't embrace the idea. I'll say this, we have quite a few young, 20ish f/a's, and they are some of the most personable, outgoing, jovial people I have ever met. They work hard because they love their company. During my tenure with NWA, I don't think I encountered but a handful of f/a's that matched ours in terms of professionalism, courtesy, and overall pleasant attitude. But that's just an opinion from an LCC employee, it must be flawed in some way.

I can't wait for the MCO service! U3k320 says their route structure is horrible? I don't agree with that. Living on the East Coast and commuting regularly between Florida and New Jersey, Dulles is a wonderful connecting point. Nice short hour long service from IAD to EWR and only another hour and a half or so to Florida from there. Add hourly service IAD-EWR and BAM that's some awesome service! I have flown Indy Air twice and loved both trips! Can't wait to jump on the IBus to MCO!!!

I wouldn't doubt it. DL and DH are biting each others heads off here in TYS, competing over some Florida markets. I would say CRW would be a likely choice for DH expansion

Low-cost segments hardly destroy an industry. Motel 6 didn't exactly do away with Ritz Carlton, Intercontiental, or Four Seasons. Hyundai hasn't exactly eliminated Mercedes or Lexus. McDonalds hasn't done away with any 5-star restaurants. And Wal-Mart hasn't eliminated Nordstrum or Needless Markups (aka - Nieman Marcus). To say that the existence of WN would signal the death of premium service is groundless.

According to USAToday...

Independence Air has a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. ET today, where the airline is expected to announce its first coast-to-coast destinations. At the media event, the carrier will unveil its Airbus A319 aircraft that it will use for those flights. Currently, the airline flies a fleet of 50-seat regional jets, serving 35 destinations on the East Coast from its hub at Washington Dulles. Where will the airline's first long-haul flights routes go? Tampa appears to be slated for one of the new routes. Starting Nov. 3, Independence Air will begin three daily flights between Dulles and Tampa, reports the St. Petersburg Times. In fact, Tampa appears to be targeted for a significant I-Air expansion. In addition to the Dulles flights, I-Air will also add non-stop service between Tampa and six southeastern cities: Greensboro, N.C.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Huntsville, Ala.; Charleston, S.C; Greenville, S.C., and Columbia, S.C. Check back with Today in the Sky this afternoon for the post-press conference update.

Looks as if RDU really does miss the boat again...

your comment : During my tenure with NWA,

How does a 20 year have "tenure". LOL!

20 year olds are willing to work for peanuts...most of you don't have morgages and familys to support.

NWAFA, tenure is defined as "the term during which some position is held". There are other definitions of course. Even though my time at NWA was limited (thankfully), I still managed to get a negative impression of many NWA employees, yourself excluded of course, I'm sure you are very good at what you do and do it with professionalism. But man, there are some weird people working for you guys in MSY.

Pilotntrng, I was thinking the same thing. DL carries almost all of our traffic to MCO. our of the 5 Rj's to ATL, ied say at least 2 are full of folks going to or soming from MCO, its our largest O&D market.

Just a couple of side observations.

Looks like Independence Air lucked out by waiting til late fall to move into Florida in a big way. During the summer I'd argued they should at least get a foothold going with RJ's. Three hurricanes later, looks like they missed some real indigestion by waiting. AirTran and JetBlue both took significant hits from the hurricanes because of their high concentration in Florida; FL carries nearly a third of its pax there. Southwest's route system of course is big enough that Florida exposure hurts them less.

FLL, as our MAH has documented so well, is in the midst of a big boom in service with several carriers expanding, and may have congestion issues going into next year. Indy may figure that it's best to stay out of that fight; I wouldn't be surprised to see only hub service to IAD from FLL. TPA has had a lot less attention this summer--probably in part because of its better-developed WN station. But Indy can steer clear of WN markets because of all the RJ's.

ERJ170--Indy may steer clear of serving TPA and MCO from RDU because Southwest does now. Surprisingly they don't run RDU-FLL--why not? No other LCC does right now.

correct.. only WN.. however, DL just took on WN with 2 daily to TPA...

and DL has no competition to FLL (AE only on weekend) so they are charging out the @ss...

I'm hoping that IDE does a transcon from RDU.. and perhaps a BUF and/or MSY.....

Okay, I've said this time and time again. Don't expect any new flight out of RDU ANYTIME soon. Midway rarely made a profit on MSY. It just isn't a big enough market. I can assure you that RDU won't see I-Air transcon service for a long time unless a subsidy is offered and they have a reason to go into the market.
Independece is all about expanding into a niche market such as TYS, CAE, GSP and others that don't have much LCC service. This is the reasoning of why they are willing to go head to head with DL and not WN right now. We aren't competing against the legacy's, we are competing against the other LCC's.

NWAFA,
I'm sorry, I believe in a fair wage as well. But alot of people I see doing the same work as I do for a LCC, I honestly see most of you as grossly overpaid. I don't believe any baggage worker is worth 20+ an hour, I don't believe any CSA (especially USAir senior agents) are worth 25+ an hour, and I don't believe any pilot is worth 100,000+ a year. I'm sorry, but this isn't the 1960's anymore. Airlines compete now on routes, just like any other free enterprise. You need to keep one thing in mind. You generally make two choices when you look for work. A. Do I want to make alot of money? B. Do I want to do something fun? Unless you are a professional baseball player, I don't think you are able to answer both. I look forward to every day I get to go to work. I don't complain about how much I make. I'm just glad I have a job in the industry still after the last few years. Maybe you need to assess your priorites and decide if you need to get a job in an industry that can afford to pay your mortgage and send your kids to college and still lets you pass out a plastic cup with a choice of beverage and occassionlly a bag of pretzels. The LCC's didnt do this to you, greedy airline employees (including upper mgmt) did this to themselves. Sadly to say, its time to pay the piper.

Flyibaby - By your last post it sounds as if you hate RDU which you and I both know couldn't be further from the truth.  Smile Spray a little sunshine up our arse would ya.

ERJ170-I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I usually do to this site as I am back to the books full-time working on that ever elusive Masters. I do want to offer you a heartfelt thanks for your due diligence in your countless postings about all things RDU - the airport we both love dearly. Whenever I have the time to sign on I immediately do a search of your recent postings so that I am quickly caught up. Your postings are invaluable to me so thanks so much. Incidentally, how is the job hunt going? Have you landed that six figure salaried job yet?

Hahaha! Heck No! Seems a degree isn't quite as fulfilling as I thought it was! But I'm working on it! 6 figures? I wish... Anyway, welcome back Womack!

I don't think FlyIbaby was trying to be hating.. I think he was just emphasizing that IDE is about through with RDU; much like F9 is.. with only one destination. Kinda odd, cause it's not one of the top 10 destinations, but still one of the top 20. But who knows what the future brings...
