Saudi Arabian L1011/744 Parked @ LAX

Tue Sep 14, 2004 8:29 am

Yesterday I noticed a parked Saudi Arabian 747-400 at LAX's South Complex Parking (it's still there as of this afternoon). A few weeks ago, I noticed the L1011 at LAX a couple days out of those weeks. On one day, the L1011 landed, taxied to South Complex parking, stayed for perhaps 45 minutes at most, and took off again (perhaps this may have been a pick-up or drop-off).

Since Saudi Arabian does not operate scheduled flights into/out of LAX, I was just curious to know the reasons behind these charter(?) flights? Are they always operated this often into LAX? It seems to me that they're around more often here at LAX in recent weeks/months than they used to be. And isn't the L-1011 operated for the transportation of Saudi Royal Family?

Any info would be appreciated. Lovely to see such a nicely painted 744 as you make the exit from the 105 Freeway onto Sepulveda-North!

Thanks  Smile

Have seen the L1011 747 and 777 all at STN in London....They pop in pick up some pax and sometimes a little cargo and then go again. Always makes me wonder what they pick up etc.

Members of the Saudi Royal Family on vacation/shopping trips to LA.

Saudi government aircraft ranging from Gulfstreams up to B747s can be seen at LAX on a pretty regular basis.

The Saudi Embassy in Washington had their A340 in LA a few weeks back also.

Take a look in the data base both under Saudi Royal Flight and Saudi Arabian Airlines at Los Angeles.

Pics of everything from Gulfstreams, B707s, MD-11, B747s and the L-1011 which was in town last week.

Nzblue,

The L1011 is operated by the Special Flights (Royal Flights) division of Saudi Arabian Airlines (SVA/SV). The Special Flights operates the following aircraft:
B737-700
B757-200 Medical
B747-300
B747SP
L1011-500
MD11
Small Biz jets

They also, from time to time, use aircraft from the SV fleet, such as the 744 you mentioned at LAX. Both flights were operated by the Special Flight div. carrying Royal families back from the summer vacation in LA.
