LH flies nonstop from Munich..... I assume by "direct" you're talking about a non-stop flight?

your choices are US and US if you're looking for non-stop.
United 717 heavy, you're facing the wrong way. Any chance you can powerback to get off of my deice pad?

There are plenty of options, although they will require a connection. You could fly CO via EWR, NW via DTW, UA via IAD, DL via ATL, etc.

Bizzell0 - I just checked AA's website...they still fly LGW-RDU. RDU is only about 170 miles (about 3 hour drive) versus Savannah, GA, which I'm not sure has any direct flights from London. Hope this helps.

ATL is only about 4 hours from CLT and sees service from BA and DL. If you are willing to drive SAV-CLT, the drive from Atlanta should not be a problem. However, I do believe that US has the best service across the pond and if you go with that option you obviously won't have a drive on this end.

If I was you I would stick with the US Airways option and enjoy their A330's - Great leg room, great IFE with the "On-Demand" Passport System and the food isn't that bad either!!!

Charlotte is also a real easy airport to get through and doesn't have the congestion or chaos of many airports in the US. I usually choose Charlotte over other airports when I have to change planes.

I know you maybe concerned about US Airways going into Chapter 11 bankruptacy again but, I personally don't think there is any thing to worry about and if you book with a credit card you are fully protected!

Also, like others have mentioned, their are other airlines, not sure why a direct flight is a such an issue. CLT customs are not the best, and yes US Airways is in bankruptcy, nobody is really sure what will happen with them, if they cut Europe flights or not.

As others mentioned about the US A330, NW will offer the A330 on certain dates in October LGW-DTW, with the A332, its got just about what US Airways has except a little more advanced IFE system. CO offers a good product to EWR, not sure on their IFE, but I dont think its ON-DEMAND. Delta Offers a PTV on their 777's if you happen to fly at a time when DL fliest their 777s over to LGW. Good luck!

Thanks everybody for the advice, US seems the best option but I'm a little worried about a problem arising with them after I book due to the financial problems.

Bizzel- If the financial problems are worrying you that much I would encourage you to look at American non-stop from Gatwick to Raleigh-Durham. The service is on a 777 and quite nice - Once in Raleigh you can easily pickup a nonstop flight to Charlotte on US Airways. They have at least 8 non-stops to Charlotte every day. Therefore you would only be depending on US to get you from RDU to CLT - a 45 minute flight. Incidentally if you are a FF who uses United's program you can book those same RDU-CLT flights under a United flight number as they have a codeshare agreement with US.
Oh how I miss Midway Airlines. A class act right to then end.

To earn Mileage Plus points, the flight doesn't have to have a UA # on it, any Star Alliance member flight will earn you miles, regardless of codesharing.

No there is no nonstop service between RDU and SAV - Midway used to offer nonstop service through their commuter carrier, but there haven't been any such service since. I wasn't aware from your original post that you needed to get to Savannah. If that is what you need to do then Delta would probably be your best bet through Atlanta. If your are needing to fly London-Charlotte-Savannah then US Airways will be your most trouble-free experience.

IMHO US offers a far superior Y product across the pond and CLT is a much better airport for connecting than ATL (especially if your SAV flight is an Express flight). I'd recommend US based on that, though driving from CLT or ATL is certainly feasible. Driving from RDU is pushing it (~5 hours depending on traffic).
