CO, Wrong Security Video-Bad Video Equip.

Wed Sep 15, 2004 2:44 am

In the past 2 months, I have been on 4 CO 737 flights. In two of the flights, the video equipment had problems! What is going on with CO. On my last flight, yesterday from LAX-CLE, the audio equipment didn't work, the same problem on my PVR-EWR flight! The FAs were going to show the same movie on my return as I saw on my outbound, this also a problem, but couldn't get it to work.
Anyway, the security video that features Gordo started playing. The video stated that this was one of CO's modern A/C, a 757-300 series. We were on a 73G. I shook my head and laughed! It wasn't untill the 8 exits were pointed out that the FAs shut the video off. They fooled around for a while and then fast forwarded the video to the next part. After the video was completed, the FA said, "We are sorry for the confusion, this is a 737-700 series A/C." I was amazed.
1.) Has the wrong safety video ever been played on your flight?
2.) What have your experiences with the 737 video programming been like?

To my knowledge, I've never had a wrong aircraft-type safety video ever played on any of the flights I've been on; those had actually have safety video tapes.

On a recent US 733 flight I was on (PHL-DFW), the video (which does exist for a US 733) wasn't even shown; the flight crew did the old-fashioned demonstration. On my return DFW-PHL flight, another US 733, the safety video was run but several of the monitors (including the one nearest to me) had poor video reception; one screen had a snowy effect, another had vertical hold issues, etc.

happens all the time on SAA, I have pointed out to the FAs several times that they are showing the wrong video. The video is pretty generic but there is an "overwater" version and a "land only" version, have seen them start the land only video in London and Frankfurt, when I point it out to them I get blank "what do you know" looks and that pisses me off big time.

When I flew the Continental 767-400ER from Houston to Amsterdam a few weeks back, the video was for a 767-200.

Other than that, thats all. And at least they were in the same family catergory!

I didn't know they put 757 videos on 737s. You'd think they'd just have the video specific to that aircraft.

Usually the airlines have specific tapes that remain on the aircraft, and that normally correspond to the exact aircraft type.

I am quite amazed to see such "mistakes" being made by the flight attendants.

If they can't manage to get the right video safety tape being showed to the pax, what else can they wrongly do?

No specific complaint about cabin attendants in general, but I think this is quite unprofessional.

Hate to say it but here at WO, I hear about this happening a lot. Just this past weekend we were taking Jacksonville up to Buffalo for the game and the video that was being shown not only was in Portugese but was also advising that this flight was going to Malabo, Equitorial Guinea. Ooops.

I've had the same happening to me on an Air Berlin B737-800 on the way from HAJ to PMI: the video they showed was for the -400, in other words they showed overwing exits being operated differently from the ones actually on the plane.

When I asked the f/as while deplaning, their response was "so what - nobody ever pays attention to the safety videos anyhow"...

At that point, I was not impressed.

I found it weird that a 753 video made it's way onto a 73G. I was thinking that maybe the lead FA holds the tapes for his/her flights.
I laughed about it. It was pretty funny and mostly nobody caught it. MY sister, sitting next to me had no clue. Nobody really pays attention but I'de think it would be against some security code.

I just returned from LAX on CO on 4 757-200's and the safety videos were correct on each flight. The only thing that was different was the movie going to IAH was the wrong one that was advertised in the inflight magazine.

I was on a 737-800 and Gordo was talking about the 737-700... with the safety video for the 737-700 being featured. Guess the second overwing exit is a bonus.

On each of my last 2 CO flights, one on a 738, the other a video-equipped 733, they showed the 73G safety video. On the 738, they made the correction about the additional exits afterwards. I happened to be in the second exit row over the wing, so I noticed the mistake immediately.

Can you please tell me the date and flight #'s for your travel with the faulty eqip, then I can get it sorted.

I haven't had the wrong security video but I have had the wrong airport outline played. On approach to HKG they will show this and that about the airport but instead the video showed up for NRT. Not that big of a deal. On a WN flight a f/a said that the a/c that we were on (737NG) was a 732. She corrected herself but it did make me think..

Thanks again.

I was on flight 1987 on July 31st. More recently, I was on 508 from LAX-CLE.(continuing svc. to DCA).
FutureFO,
That has also happened to me and sometimes it was the same movie on both legs. I now take my laptop and a couple movies.

Monorail,
It has happened a lot lately. I'm not sure what has happened but it doesn't look good from a passenger point of view.

I've never been on a flight with the screw up. I would think that the FAA or JAA could fine them unless the information was corrected?

On all the times I have flown CO, there have been no problems with the A/V equipment or anything for that matter.

I don't know about videos...but in Canada...if the wrong Safety Card is in the wrong plane...its a penalty to the airline of $1000 per seat that the cards are wrong!

ps. I sell the cards...
