Radio Outage=Close Calls.

Fri Sep 17, 2004 4:00 am

USA Today..9/16..A three hour air traffic control outage that grounded hundreds of flights across the west on Tuesday also led to five close calls in which planes failed to keep minimum distances between aircraft The FAA said.......The communication shutdown happened at 4:40 pm PT on Tuesday at the FAAs control center at Palmdale Calf. It left controllers without the ability to talk by radio to pilots or controllers at other centers...About 400 aircraft were being tracked at the time..600 flts were cancelled or diverted at LAX...Q. what are the the procedures for both ATC and flight crews when this happens??
