On a side note, has NZ made their aircraft order official? Or is it still LOI?

If Air New Zealand eventually order the 777-300ER which I think they will do to replace 744 then they will have GE engines.

ANZ ordered the Trent as much for scoring maintenance work on Trent 777s for their Engineering department. (Singapore/Malaysian)

I think that is why they went IAE with the A320 was the same reason over the experience they had with the CFM so that the Engineering dept could score contract work on IAE engines.

Boeing767-300

I heard on the radio today that NZ engineers are disappointed that RR have been given the contract to do maintiance work on the T7s. NZ engineers were hoping that NZ would do the maintaince work on the T7s as it would lead to future maintaince work on other airlines T7s.

Never mind, there are plenty of RR powered 777s out there!

How can NZ do maintaince on other airlines RR powered B777s if NZ engineers don't have any experience on RR T7s engines?

We were never going to be doing the maintenance on the 772 engines anyway. The infrastructure cost was going to be through the roof, in the 100's of millions of dollars. The testcell for starters is only rated to 65000lbs thrust. What was heard on the radio today was a typical media beat-up, as always. We have all known this from day 1.

Doh! My bad - I misread your post. I thought you were saying the engineers wanted different engines. Embarrassment

NZ1.........

do RR have overhaul facilities nearer to NZ than the UK and are there competing shops that would have bid for the work? Will ANZ own the engines or will they be leased from RR?

SunriseValley - I believe RR have an overhaul shop in Hong Kong (HAESL), in a joint venture with Cathay. The engines are all leased, and will be swapped 1 for 1 when due for overhaul.

As 777ER has said, the leased a/c are coming from ILFC. Not 100% sure on the exact config yet, as it's due to be signed off at the next board meeting. Obviously there is no 1st Class.
