Tokyo-Haneda New Terminal (Terminal 2) Info?

Sun Sep 19, 2004 12:30 pm

I noticed some pictures from Okiten Now, which I think is Haneda Airport's newsletter and it led me to curiosity regarding Terminal 2 which is under construction. (pics are at:http://www.pa.ktr.mlit.go.jp/haneda/haneda/now/vol_now/03.html for those interested)

I thought I heard that the new terminal was set to open by this summer. I assume the construction must have been delayed. I thought I saw somewhere that it was set to open December 1. Can anyone verify? Also, I believe ANA group will be using the new terminal while JAL group is left with the current terminal. Is this correct? Also, does anyone know where I can find some more information on the terminal and perhaps some pics (real or concept) of the terminal? There's a couple from the Okiten Now article and the terminal looks pretty nice. Any info is appreciated.

Knowing Japanese airports, it will have very good viewing facilities, particularly of aircraft on takeoff.

Looking forward to visiting it, sometime next year.

Terminal Two will be open on Dec.1 and ANA will move there with Air Do. The following brochure will give you some images.

Because it will have the observation deck, you can stay at the airport whole day with nice light condition.

Will Haneda ever have more international flights again? The trip to/from Narita is simply too long!!

There is a proposal that there will be limited international flights when HND's fourth runway is built, in about 2009. I think the plan is to have short haul flights - mainly within Asia, but frankly, I think the pressure will be immense to extend them further afield and greater access for Japanese carriers will be tied to this. The cost of these slots will be very high and I can foresee them being of particular interest to airlines operating the likes of A319CJ/-115X and 737BBJ (eg Lufthansa's operation), for dedicated Business Class services.

Where is the 4th runway planned. I guess it's a third parallel on the waterside of HND, isn't it?

Is there a dedicated webside?

Great to see that the new terminal will include a new airport hotel; the previous hotel, at the far side of the airport was expensive, inconvenient and disappointing. Hopefully this one will be better: looks like it has good views too.

Why is it only the Japanese who can get airport design perfect!!

Korean Air and Asiana already serve Haneda with flights to Seoul's older Kimpo airport.

They did a big review of this in a Japanese airliners magazine. The new terminal two is currently little smaller than terminal 1 and the exclusive usage of ANA is right!!! They are also going to extend the monorail service so that it goes to Terminal 2. As for the intl terminal, I keep on seeing the old one where there is a loop road to get onto the highway, well I am not a HND freak so I might be wrong. But I think current flights really have a big shift because for instance, the Osaka (ITAMI) airport authorities said that soon, no airlines would be allowed to fly 744's in anymore. So...... this will change ANA's reliance currently with a fleet of 22 747's flying domestically. (This number includes SR's and 400D and I am sure a few SR's have retired already, but the information is 1/2004)
