Yes, AA will open a large new terminal at JFK. But if you compare AA's and CO's presence in NYC now, AA will be extremely hardpressed to catch up with CO across the Hudson at EWR anytime soon. How could they? How soon and aggresively would AA start service from JFK to places like Greensboro, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Sarasota, Minneapolis, Detroit, Cleveland, and so forth. All places CO is established from NYC. Besides it has been AA that has dropped routes out of JFK that CO has picked up. for example New York to Bogota, Brussels and Zurich. CO is opening a new international terminal at EWR and they have absolutely no intention of stopping their growth in EWR while AA is building their JFK facility. If CO is smart, they will build up at JFK, so then they can start transcon service out of both airports, like AA and UA already do. If they want to seriously be New York's "hometown airline" (which sounds so silly, even though they're the largest there), they need to expand at JFK.
