Why Is There Still The HP Ohio Plane?

Mon Sep 20, 2004 8:03 am

Hi everyone! I was wondering why there is still an Ohio hub logojet on an HP 752? Why wouldn't they repaint that aircraft into the normal colors instead of leaving it in the special colors? Do they have plans on repainting it in the future anytime soon? I really think that scheme is really pretty, especially on the 752, but all good things must end....

I would suspect as AWE does not have the Columbus hub any longer that N905AW indeed would get a repaint at its next scheduled heavy check.

That particular aircraft seems to be here at LAX quite often...at least several days a week. I must say I quite like HP's uniquely-painted aircraft, however while it is a nice break from the normal HP scheme, I still have never been quite fond of the "Ohio" paint job. I think it is my least favorite of the bunch.

Call me crazy, but HP could do so much better with a new, fresh paint job. If there was any way they could update their font (so "America West" doesn't look so smashed) and the colors they choose for their aircraft, it would be quite a nice change. There's just something about the teal-green and the jagged wavy lines in the tail and on the fuselage that just doesn't look right. The right colors and design (perhaps a new corporate logo) could really bring out and represent the "west" in America West. It's just my honest opinion on the matter  Smile

Of course we all have our own likes and dislikes when it comes to paint schemes and I would love to hear what others think of not only the Ohio plane but of HP's colors in general.

Cheers

NZBlue,
What exactly are your ideas for HP's improved color scheme?

From what I understood when I worked at HP. All 757s are supposed to go back to std colors when a repaint is needed.

I guess just because CMH was special to HP . . . that they want to keep the Ohio Scheme ...

Don't rip on Ohio anymore...I have the model in my room.  Big grin
As native Ohioan, I applaud HP's use of the A/C. Ohio is the birthplace of aviation (I'll give some credit to NC residents), the first MLB team, home to 8 (maybe 9) former U.S. presidents, and home to some Astronauts (John Glenn), and the first state built in the Northwest Territory.

Sorry. I love my state (although I live in Virginia while I go to school), and hopefully would retire back there.

Cheers!

Well, according to what I was told while in training in PHX, this aircraft was painted with the Ohio Scheme to pay tribute to the people of that state, as well as those in Columbus for their support to the airline during the time it was in bankrupcy.

Therefore, I hope it remains like that in order to show the people that they are still important to HP even though the CMH hub was shut down last year (In fact, it was mostly operated by RP).

So, there's the response for this  Smile

Nice response HPA320....you're a respected user on my list. It was sad to see HP leave CMH. Many of our people lost jobs. I certainly think it was only fitting to do such a thing. I have a new respect for HP now.

Didn't Delta Connection take over the operation of RP in CMH?

I hope the Ohio plane remains in the fleet. HP would be stupid to repaint their theme planes. A California plane is long overdue especially in light of LAX becoming a focus city. Also, given HP's Mexico presence, it would be nice to see a "south of the border" livery.

I've actually heard people's "Wow" comments when a HP theme plane taxis by. These were people flying on other airlines.

So the planes have the effect of being an advertisement of sorts. This helps gets the HP name in the minds of those who may not be familiar with the airline.

If there's a "South of the Border" livery they should put it into a B737-300 because if they did that on a B757 we would never see it over here.

Well, I'm talking about MEX. HP does fly B757's into both, SJD and PVR though.

The "City of Columbus" jet is one of my favorite colorschemes ever! It's a great tribute to Ohio and a really slick looking plane. I hope they keep it for a long time.
