Hahaha, what's even more funny IMO is that the logo really resembles ATAs.

The door has been recently replaced. It looks like it was off of a USAirways 73.

It looks as if there was a problem with the door, and they borrowed one from US Airways.

Do airlines co-operate in this way.

The door may very well may have come from a stored or scrapped
US 73's in the desert, where spare parts are usually more economical then a new part.
Just my guess...

Maybe this could be a good way for US to make some money, use the stored a/c and lease out parts, i.e. doors, to other carriers! Just a thought.

Airlines frequently borrow/lend parts to each other. Of course there is usually a cost involved.

There are some airlines that actually share the cost of high dollar, low usage, no go items in remote areas. These are called pool parts. Not really sure how the accounting works on that but the system exists.

Not only is the door very far away from home but what about the plane? A 737-300 from France all the way down in South Africa?

The reason the a/c has a French reg is because reunion is a French overseas department, therefore all air austral a/c will have a French registration as with all the other overseas departments of France in the pacific, and Caribbean.

This practice has been done with cars for decades (how many different color fenders, hoods, trunk lids, etc. have you seen on cars?) why not aircraft?

I guess what is surprising is the distance between the location of the scrapped aircraft and that of where this aircraft operates. Indeed, there is no 733 scrap that I know of in southern Africa, where I think a 733 would be considered a more modern aircraft and not be scrapped... I wonder when the 732s and 722s will leave for newer 734s and 735s.

The problems with replacing doors is that they fit each airplane differently. So I'm sure the whistling in the back of that airplane was loud ....
Next time try the old "dirty Sanchez" She'll love it !!!

That door looks like it came straight out of the plane scrapyard.
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!
