Excellent news for the SLC hub. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they didn't have TPA and FLL service already, as well as MSY. It's a shame that it took Frontier's SLC-CUN service for DL to finally react and inaugurate the route as well. But, what can you do?

All in all, excellent news for Delta, Salt Lake City, and Delta's wonderful and hard-working employees. May everything continue to get better  Smile.

Panam330, Delta actually flew SLC-MSY nonstop up until 2002. They used 727 and 757 aircraft mostly. The 727 flight routed SLC-MSY-TPA...flight #2076, I remember that one fondly. Delta cut the route unfortunately, but it's good to see them bringing it back, even at the expense of the DFW service, as AA and WN both offer frequent nonstop service from MSY and the DAL/DFW areas.

Wish Delta would add a nonstop for SLC to/from BWI too. Southwest runs this route, but wouldn't mind having a choice.

Wonder of the Cabo route might become year-round, along with some other Mexican routes.

Since CMH is a Delta focus city why no SLC _ CMH flights?

In addition, 7E72004, will we ever see international service from DL out of SLC? It seems as though the states of Utah and Colorado do not see any international service...hell Denver is a big UA hub, but do they have international service out of there? Nooooooooo....

It makes sense to add some INt'l service from SLC...as well as IND. If IND is going to lose the DL service to DFW then SLC should replace it...plus it seems like a logical move; more connecting options for flyers.

Whatever, DL.

If you think I'm gonna give up flying to the west coast on WN and AA's big jets to connect through SLC on a CRJ out of my hometown AUS....

...you've got another thing coming.

7E72004,

I am 6'7" and about 260lbs. I don't like the CRJ and avoid them like the plague. On the window seats the fuselage cuts into my upper torso badly. I've had 3 segments (too many) on these planes recently and all were miserable.

I don't mind the ERJ because it's more comfortable from a passenger perspective other than the headroom in the aisle.

Still, I find the 737's of WN and the MD-80s of AA preferable for my AUS flight needs. Plus, both have the best legroom among the domestic carriers.

Over the last month, and planned for the near future, DL is adding flights at JFK too, including non-stops to Denver, other US cities as well as some international flights. There have been a number of ads in the NYC newspapers noting these new and expanded flights

I can't figure out for the life of me why DL hasn't started at least one nonstop on the RDU-SLC route. It just doesn't make sense.

The answer always lies in the amount of O & D traffic to justify a route. ATL - RDU is a relatively short hop and possibly the amount of traffic to RDU from the West does not justify overflying the ATL hub.

At this very time RDU is seriously under-served with non-stop or even one-stop service to the West Coast. The O&D numbers are there for several destinations with the highest numbers belonging to LAX. The SLC numbers are fairly consistent also. With all of the new DL flights coming into RDU - it certainly looks as though one trip to the West Coast would do the try. Hell at this point I would be glad to Delta them use one of those newly vacant DFW MD-90's on a RDU-SLC-LAX-SLC-RDU routings and they can even pull one of those older 733 for a LAX-RDU-ILM-RDU-LAX routings. That route would be consistently full with all of the movie studios in Wilmington and no direct flight for them into LAX. Just a few thoughts on these would be appreciated. Thanks.
