Why Did Mexicana Get The CFM56 Engine?

Tue Sep 21, 2004 7:05 am

I´m wondering why did Mexicana chose the CFM56 engine for its A-319 fleet, if it already had the IAEV2500 on its A-320s? Anybody knows?

Well I think it has to do with what was available on the market for lease at the time.
In addition the A318s which are being leased via GECAS will also be arriving with CFM engines due GE's partnership with CFM.

AFAIK the A318 is not available with the IAE engine at all. The PW6000 was chosen instead.

The lack of an IAE engine on the 318 is probably due to size and thrust reasons. The V2500 range doesn't have lower thrust options that the CFM family can offer.

My point with engines being is that especially on new airframes GECAS will only provide GE family engines.
GECAS does not offer A318s with PW nor A319-321 with IAE engines.

GECAS will only provide GE family engines.

Nope. GECAS will finance whatever the deal requirements are.

Many of their leases are for non-GE powered aircraft which they finance for the airline. It's only for aircraft they order directly (for instance with the Q8 or 6N Boeing codes) which are always GE or CFM powered.
