Valuair To Launch SIN-PER Flights

Tue Sep 21, 2004 9:40 am

I heard on the news this morning that Singapore-based budget airline Valuair will be launching a SIN-PER service in December. It's great to see new international airlines in Perth!  Smile And Valuair will be our first international LCC. Valuair is also looking at new routes into China.

hi,

haven't seen any postings on their web site. Do you know frequency, the date and prices??

Will be great to see it here in Perth, do we know who will be handling them? I'm guessing Skystar!

More importantly I wonder how this will effect the likes of QF/EK/SQ. I am sure that they will need to lower their prices yet again in order to compete with now this "low cost" international player.
Could there be a possibility that QF will send Australian Airlines to compete with Valuair? I am sure it will hurt more the other players as opposed to QF.

Due to aircraft capability restrictions, AK claims that they have a rationale of not flying routes longer than 3-4 hours. Yeah right, more like coz their planes can't make it  Big thumbs up

EK does not fly between PER and SIN  Smile

And I wonder how much impact AK will bring to competition... It's only a daily A320 capacity that we are talking here; after all, majority of SIN bound passengers are simply transit in nature.

QF and SQ will probably just target premium pax as a result. They will probably also concentrate more on passengers heading for europe as compared to just SIN like Valuair will. I don't see the point of Australian Airlines operating the route as well as QF and SQ.

Bit more here:
http://www.travelbiz.com.au/articles/4A/0C02764A.asp

At the moment two A320s aren't going to have much impact on SQ's 2 or 3 daily B777s and QF's daily 2 x B767 or 1 x B767 + 1 x B747, so I assume there will be follow up fleet announcements soon.

Be interesting to see the impact, I wouldn't have thought that the commuting Singapore to/from South Singapore (aka Perth) market was the same as say Perth - Denpasar. On that route Garuda and Qantas can get away with B737s in competition with Air Paradise's A310s, but I guess that there may be a low end market for Valuair to exploit.

Further news - this morning's (Wednesday 22 September) "The West Australian" (the local South Singapore daily newspaper) has an article stating that the flights will be daily A320s turning around in PER at around 10pm-11pm.

Fares will be $500AUD and include a meal and "inflight entertainment".

Unfortunately I can't give a direct link because the stupid newspaper charges way over the top to subscribe to its online version.

From early next year QF will be using the new A333s fitted with skybeds on most PER-SIN-PER services.

$500 AUD is pretty expensive when you consider SQ is now charging SGD $368 for a return ticket.

In a similar article published in asia1.com.sg ... the CEO of Valuair was quoted saying they are looking into launching flights to Shanghai or Guangzhou as their next destinations ... would be a great news if it's materialised !

I like how Perth is referred to as "Southern Singapore". Anyone who has been there can observe tha it is being "swamped" by Singaporeans. Walking downtown is like being in Orchard Road, only difference is that the weather is not that humid.
