NW May Get US Airways Airbus's

Tue Sep 21, 2004 9:53 am

Just got word that there are a few US Airways busses at the NW MSP maintnence base for NW mechanics to take a look at, if they pass inspection it looks like NW will be taking them.  Big thumbs up

It was unclear as to what model, but I know 100% sure that it was not the A321, I believe, its a couple of 319's and 320's

wow, the way these ( if us folds ______ airlines will get _____) posts are coming. If US folds, everyones getting a piece.

I may be misreading it, but this is not the guess who will get, the fact is they are there for that reason.

Pilots....!!! The biggest rumor starters in the airlines.

Since the USAirways aircraft are leased, they would first need to be removed from the USAIrways OPS Spec before they could be sent back out to a new customer. Also, all outstanding checks and inspections would need to be addressed.

Hmmm...maybe because those Airbuses are needed for US revenue service. They're not just going to take vital aircraft out of a busy weekday schedule and fly them to a competitor's hub to let them "see" these airplanes "in case of a liquidation."

I don't buy it either....

Actually, NW, US, UA, and HP all use the largest French banks for most their Airbus financing. There is no reason to doubt they would want to shop their aircraft among their customers---they, are, after all, the owners---not the airline.

Does seem a bit soon, however.

That's like saying to someone they could use your liver for a few months until you die . . . you won't need it. US Isn't dead. They are still operating an airline and probably need aircraft to do so. It would be pretty bold to send their planes (and awfully nice of the leasing company) for a once over by NW when they are still trying to fly.

Your facts seem a little unclear there Burnsie...first of all why would a pilot be privy to what is going on over in maintenance besides hearing a rumor from someone else. I agree with the earlier posts, NW like all other airlines, is full of unsubstantiated rumors. Why would NW be shopping for new narrow bodies when it is still pulling them from the desert? The only fleet group being replaced currently is the DC-10 and 747-200. It would make more sense that NW is looking at 330s...and that rumor has been floating around for some time about NW wanting US 330s.

Another possibility if it is true, there are there is 3 or 4 319's were turned back into the lessor and maybe the lessor is showing them? Shrug? I will check at work in am also to see what is/was at the hanger. Maybe US contracted some type of maintence to be done to them? Just brainstorming, never know.

I was under the impression that 3 of there 319-100 were returned to the lessor not so long ago. Maybe my buddy there is wrong.

Let me take a guess at this, I make a bet there is a US Airbus up at MSP right now. In fact, I guarentee it......

You know why, because its SCHEDULED!!!!
US RON's a A319 from PHL in MSP nightly.

Some nimrod (not necessairly your father) probably saw the 'bus up in MSP and thought OMG!!!!! NW is looking US's Airbus's, they're definetely gonna buy 'em! And then the rumor mill got in full motion. Before too long I'm sure the rumor will change to than NW is taking US's retired F-100's out of the desert to open a focus city at PIT......

Anyways, even if their was an iota of truth to this, this is not standard procedure for how this would even unfold.

US, its creditors, the leasehold, whoever, wouldn't fly to aircraft up to MSP. They would invite NW reps to come to wherever the aircraft is parked at. Creditors and leaseholds generally don't fly their aircraft across the country in search of customers.

Also since NW is in Ch. 11, the courts would have to approve of such transactions, which would be public knowledge.

Beyond that, NW doesn't really need more 'buses, especially 2nd hand aircraft. They've got other fleet priorities to address, primarily the long-haul widebody fleet and the low end of mainline and high end of regional aircraft, which shall remain nameless.

Hmmm...if it is at 150 then they have retired several since July. In the August edition it said there were 163 left.

My conclusion is that they are slowly phasing them out, adding more A319's and CRJ's for replacements.

Edit: How many A319/A320's do they have <<<>>>?

The aircraft in that picture aren't dead.....

The the NW storage lot you see.

The lone Airbus and 4 757's are all in temp. storage.

Same goes for the 742's, for now they are in storage until their fate is finally determined.

The DC-9's there are in storage and will return to service in early 2005.

Note that they all still have NW titles and all.

If they had been sent to Dothan, AL then they would be dead.

NW uses MZJ for storage.

Well I can't say I've seen the US Airways Airbuses at MSP or DTW (besides the scheduled aircraft). But I can provide some evidence.

I found two old flight plans for US A321s ferried out of DTW, one in March and one in August (note US doesnt regularly fly A321s to DTW). I also found three US A319s ferried out of MSP and three B733s ferried out of MSP since March (last one left 9/08/04). While US A319s and B733s do regularly fly to MSP, these flights (like the DTW ones) all had ferry flight numbers (9xxx).

OOOOO I just got served. I stand corrected. One question though. Why would NW put a newly painted aircraft to the desert? I would think that they would put one in old c/s out there unless they have painted all of their -200's already.

Anyway....where is ScottysAir when you need him?? Does he have a new username?

So I suppose NW is looking at taking the US 733s too then?  Nuts

The 321s sound like charters. It's certainly possible that the other planes were maintenance ferries out of MSP, or that they were also charters. But I think it's even more likely that they weren't ferries, but extra sections. With some crew/teething problems on some of the new RJs, it's relatively common for US to substitute a mainline aircraft for a cancelled RJ when they've got a plane available.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

Hey Burnsie, will you be giving the employees of US Air the big smile and the thumbs up if they lose their jobs? We are in dire straits and if we fold, which almost every "expert" on a.net tends to believe, then so be it, but don't gloat the fact they we are looking at getting rid of aircraft.
