China Southern, Air China Set To Buy A380s

Wed Sep 22, 2004 8:17 pm

I searched for this but found nothing. . China's major airlines are set to place orders for the A380, confirming earlier reports by ATWOnline.

The announcement is due to be made when French President Jacques Chirac visits China Oct. 8-12. According to sources at China Southern, the airline will buy four A380s while Air China will commit to six.

Chinese airlines also are close to announcing a commitment for up to 80 7E7s

Chinese airlines also are close to announcing a commitment for up to 80 7E7s is there a finalized list as to who these airlinese will be for the 7E7?

Wonder what routes CZ and CA's 380 would fly, intra China or China-US or what?

The busiest routes in China are probably PEK-PVG/SHA, PEK-CAN, CAN-PVG/SHA. They need they frenquencies not a big o' whale...but i guess the execs know better. For China-US routes, I doubt any (MU, CA CZ) can support a daily widebody (CA even uses 744m's), why a 380? Sure 6 years down the road may well be another story. Perhaps A380 mixed type just for the Chinese?

380 would also cover routes to Europe. LHR, FRA, CDG etc are all getting big increases in China traffic.

A380 will be good for the Olympics in 2008. Beyond that...what routes have the demand on a normal basis? Perhaps as the Chinese economic miracle continues, there will be enough demand on the trunk routes?

With the high populations of China, i'm not suprised they want to order the A380. Japan also. Robert NWDC10

The A380 can definitely fly between/among these domestic metro as of today:

Beijing
Shanghai
Guangzhou
Shenzhen

Frequencies? They already have a lot of them today and most flights are flown with B767s, B777s and B747s. Time for some overall efficiency with the double decker.

A 380s will come in handy for routes from China to LAX, FRA, NYC, CDG and LHR mainly.

FRA because of Star Alliance LH connections as Air China is very close to LH...CDG because of Sky Team AF connections.

NYC and LHR have enough O&D traffic bound for PEK and PVG to support A 380 traffic...especially for PEK.

Would Air China use the A380 for a combined routing of JFK and LHR or can the A380 fly JFK-PEK nonstop? I agree with the other opinions, it wouldn't surprise me to see Chinese airlines operating the A380, looking at the huge Chinese market and growing economy combined with the increasing foreign interest for China, mainly the mass production of high tech products. This may also increase the air travel of foreign travellers to and from China.
