MEA: Doha Is Official And Cairo To Remain 10/week

Wed Sep 22, 2004 11:50 pm

MEA will officially add Doha, Qatar to its route network starting November 8th with 3 weekly flights on board its brand new A-321. ME434 leaves Beirut International at 15:30 and arrives at Doha international at 19:15 (MON-THU-SAT). This service is valid until March 26th, 2005. However, It looks like the service will become daily later on, especially for the busy Summer schedule. It's also important to note that Qatar Airways will maintain its strong co-operation with MEA, while dropping its Beirut double daily to daily only for the Winter season. Cairo, on the other hand, will remain strong at 10 flights/week throughout the Winter months, using A-321 as well, as indicated on MEA's timetable schedule.

Has anybody learned when MEA's new and improved web site is due to completion?

I'm glad to hear they are working on a new web presentation as the existing one no longer reflects the airline's recent progress.

EuroLeb,

Qatar Airway's 2nd daily flight has always been a summer seasonal service that they first introduced summer 2003. It was never year-round.

MEA was planning to mantain Cairo as 10x weekly since the start of the summer. They are reporting strong traffic.

I'm disappointed though, the flights are not timed well with the Qatar Airways flights. They depart too close to each other.

The A321s aren't brand new anymore. The first one was delivered Feburary 2003 while the last one was delivered November 2003.

Regards

By the way EuroLeb, where do you see that it looks like the DOH service will become daily later on?

Cairo, on the other hand, will remain strong at 10 flights/week throughout the Winter months, using A-321

From October, one of the evening flights will be with an A332.

Any news on the Sharm El Sheikh route?

How about Tehran? It would nice to see the cedar back here. Why did they cancel it in the first place?

The new website is badly needed. Their current website is FAR below industry standards and it does not reflect the reputation that MEA has achieved.

LH600,

There is a really steady amount of traffic between Iran and Lebanon, especially in the summer. However IranAir has this route pretty well covered, and MEA trying to compete on this route would only come up dry.

I dont want to get this off topic but I need information about a 1967 project which was funded by ICAO to make Beirut a regional training center for pilots, cabin attendants, and airport fire personnel. The funded project was worth 22 million dollars at the time, and had potential employment positions for 800 people. Anyone know about this? OD720 perhaps?

The new website will be out by the end of the year.

THR was dropped due to some operational reasons with Mehrabad Airport, I forgot what. It had nothing to do with poor performance.

Wish I could help you MEA321...

MEA321,

I'm not too aware of that either. Do you have any other info about it?

BA,

A retired family-friend that worked at the MEA's accounting department mentioned to me that MEA would definitely want to strengthen their presence at Doha, and increase their Summer frequency on that route up to daily . The main reason is to benefit from Qatar Airways strength in South Central Asia, and eventually to Australia, where MEA has no immediate plans for expansion.

As for MEA's new website, I'm really glad to know that they're gonna launch it in the about 3-month time. By the way, if any of you would like to complain about BEY's dismal website, please address your concerns to Ms. Itani at:

dgca@beirutairport.gov.lb

A few weeks ago, I sent Ms. Itani an e-mail complaining about the lack of professionalism in designing and managing the new Beirut Airport website, and here what she had to say in her reply:

Dear Sir,
We acknowledge receipt of your comments.
In fact the Beirut Airport website is a trial site
for further advancements.
There's a committee & a group of specialists working on
it to modify it and make it more "user friendly".

Your comments mean that you care, so we thank you for your
concern and if you have any creative ideas we'd love
to receive it as we are brainstorming to find a "motto"
to Beirut International Airport.

Regards

Nadine Itani
Assistant to Director General

I encourage all of you to send your complains to the e-mail address above, and for that matter, any suggestions regarding the Beirut International's website.

Thanks for the info EuroLeb. Hopefully they will increase frequency on the route.

I've emailed the airport complaining about the terrible website. They basically sent me the same reply as you got, except since then they've done nothing.

I've suggested to them to implement live flight information, but they haven't implemented it yet.
