Heathrow Viewing

Thu Sep 23, 2004 2:40 am

Having not been back to Heathrow since 2000, I know that the viewing terrace on top of T2 is closed, but has the store (I think it was called Mach III) which was there closed and moved else where or is it still open and servicing customers. I believe there was a cafeteria next to it as well.

Looking at planning a weekend in October and would rather know if the whole area has been barred or just the access to the terrace overlooking T2 gates, 9R/27L and T4.

Thanks,

Sadly the whole are is now closed to the general public, although you can go to the visitors centre on the Bath Road, the shop has moved a few things there, aswell as food available, a number of buses from central bus station go there, and are free too!

EZYAirbus: Cheers mate! Sad indeed. Loved it up there in the past. Fly in from Calgary just to hang out there for hours on end and then fuel up in the pub overlooking the chek in counters in T1.

FutureFO: Oddly enough, that was the weeked I was thinking of simply to take advantage of the long weekend we have. (Canada's Thanksgiving Day is 11th) The AC fare for the weekend is about $1000.00 Cdn and the equip. is A333's. (YYC - LHR - YYC) I have not purchased anything yet, just curious about my "former" favourite spot and needing an explanation to give to the wife. I thought I would try, "travelling with my girlfriend, long and sleek and boy does she ever move at night. She has 2 of the most gorgeous...!"

DavidT,

Let me know. I am catching CO from MCO at USD445.67 for the weekend. Connecting thru IAH both ways. If you want to go I can show you some of the places that I have found and been shown and maybe we could get one of the LHR guys to show us around. I do need to know later on tonight or early tomorrow to confirm my tickets. As far as excuses for the wife go, just get creative with it.

Excellent. Hopefully we can get a good group together. A few spots that you may know of that I haven't been to. Also come to the US next year I can arrange a few things for you if you decide to come to the colonies.

Is that near the Hatton X tube station or just a bit further out? Let me know. I have been to Hatton X several times in that field just under the approach. Also what is the weather forecast to be during that time.

That picture is taken from the small grassy field at the end of Myrtle Avenue, excellent spotting location if arrivals are on 27L. As for the weather, this is Britain, it's anyones guess.  Big grin

EZYAirbus: When you say "Green Man" pub, is there actually a pub on the corner to enjoy a pint or 2 while spotting or is that more a saying about something. All my past times at LHR was spent on the T2 terrace, hanging around Stanwell Moor, walking along Bath Road and my all time favorite was the ole "Peggy Bedford" Pub which was across from the Sheraton Heathrow which very sadly was torn down and replaced with a gas station and McDicks. (Sorry for the language, but the story behind that was corporate greed and "do anything" to get their way.)

the green man is a real pub where you can enjoy a real pint in the massive garden watching aircraft pass over head around 150/200ft above you!

Sorry Sean, I will not be arriving until 20 October for an overnight en route to Croatia. But I have heard that the Renaissance has rooms with great RW views. As for pubs near LHR, I found a good list at beerintheevening.com. Have a safe trip!

The viewing centre would be a lot better if the dumbasses hadn't planted trees between it and the runway. In about ten years time they'll be huge and you'll barely be able to see the tails of the A380's.  Pissed

Hi all,

What heathrow could do:

Hire some staff to keep an eye out on the Queens Building and charge a little bit of money to go up there so they will not losse money getting the staff.

I would not mind paying a little to go up there.

Ok all here I am in the beautful city of London and have spent the day at my hotel with an obstructed view of 9L. Anyways, we need a meeting area for the meet and a rough time as to when to be there. If anyone wants to get in contact with me I am at the Holiday Inn LHR on Bath Rd and Sipson Way. I am staying in room 3305. Tomorrow I was thinking about early morning going to Hatton X and get the early morning arrivals on 27R. That is where we landed today. Anyways let me know. I will see if the hotel has a business centre and try to get back online this evening.

Glenn,

I thought you were getting the car fixed fixed this morning 9/09 not 10/10. Oh well, anyway to get around to the other sides of the field or is LGW deck still closed for refurbishment. I was thinking at getting up there sometime. Also my flight leaves 1020 tomorrow morning 10/10. So was hoping to meet up with some people today. Also waiting to room change to an airside view room after 1400.
