Russian Aerospace

Since many new Russian planes are designed to be fitted with western avionics,(tupolev tu-204,Il-96) and have the same economic performance why can't the companies sell them in Europe and the U.S. despite offering lower prices than Airbus and Boeing Sad

The Russians would have never have designed them with western avionics and engines if they were not intended for the international market.I think the Russian Regional Jet will be the first one to succeed but what about the other designs.?

The word is not certification as there is nothing wrong with Russian built aircraft.

it's support.

There isn't a widespread parts and engineering infrastructure as yet for Russian aircraft outside the former Soviet Union. Having to wait two weeks for a part to be shipped in from a Russian plant isn't conducive to efficient operations.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...

I wish those conditions are soon worked out and I hope Russian aircraft everywhere, I love them.

Lack of finance as well, Boeing sometimes buy old aircraft if the airline buy new from them. So Boeing owns a few Airbuses...

I am wondering if the western companies aren't reluctant to use eastern aircrafts because of their bad reputation in the european/american public. I know it's a shame, but still nowadays most people think that russian planes are not as secure as western ones  Sad

I also think that support is an important problem, for civil and for military aircrafts as well. Now considering certification : I though Tu-204 & Il-96 were both JAR certified, aren't they ?

Another problem is that the Tupolev 204&214 and Ilyushin 96 all have a three-man crew, so it implies more personnel costs than a two-man Airbus or Boeing crew.

I'm also wondering if trading difficulties in Russia (corruption & bureaucratic problems) don't discourage western airlines to buy airplanes in this country.... just a supposition though since I'm not a specialist in russian business.

Anyway, I hope the russian aerospace industry will find a way to sell their planes to western airlines in the near future, they deserve it !

Well, since there is now an American rocket with a Russian engine, airplanes will get there someday.

Granted, launch services are not exactly bought by the general public so the purchasing decision is somewhat more informed, but I definitely think we will see Russian aircraft in Western use. Maybe not this decade, but they'll get there.

After all, if someone had told me 15 years ago that the USA would be littered with Brazilian RJs now, I would have looked at him strangely  Big grin

I guess there is still a lot of prejudice around, western airlines don't want to be seen buying Russian built aircraft because of their reputation.

Most people who don't know much about aviation will probably tell you that they are unsafe and the airlines can't explain to everyone that this is not the case-they would just loose passengers.

There are other issues like support and commonality, I would also imagine that the latest Boeings and Airbuses are more fuel and MX efficient

Support issues and deliver times are biggies, as is politics and reliablity concerns that tie in with the support issues.

Actually the TU204/214 and IL96 both have 2 crew "Glass" Cockpits.

As other have said. it basically all comes down to support..
