Does 777 Fly In U.S.?

Sat Sep 25, 2004 4:32 am

Any US carriers operating the t7 on domestic hauls?...it's such a freaking awesome plane, I hope so! Going AUS-LAX in a few days to see my folks. Too bad AA don't fly t7 that I could find into LAX.

Cheers,
AA777jr

United currently flies the following domestic routes with 777's:

SFO-HNL
SFO-OGG
SFO-ORD
SFO-DEN

IAD-LAX
IAD-DEN

ORD-LAX
ORD-SEA
ORD-IAD
ORD-DEN
ORD-HNL
ORD-OGG (soon)

OGG-KOA (soon)
KOA-ORD (soon)

I'm sure someone else can fill in the info for the other 777 operators in the US!

Cheers!

A few of CO's IAH-EWR runs are with a 777.

And it's been put on IAH-HNL and IAH-LAX on occasion, but not as scheduled per se.

I am pretty sure AA operates it DFW - ORD as part of a DFW - ORD - LHR route. Therefore it's the only flight that goes from Dallas - LHR, and not LGW. Doesn't UA still fly 777's to MIA (maybe just 1 a day, but still...) during the high season? I know they at least used to.

They do. If you had taken AA 410 on AUS-DFW, you could have connected to AA 2421 on DFW-LAX, which is a 777-200ER. AA flies 777s domesticly on four routes: DFW-MIA (2x daily), DFW-LAX, DFW-ORD, and MIA-LAX (seasonal).

Doesn't UA still fly 777's to MIA (maybe just 1 a day, but still...) during the high season?

Currently, the UA Miami schedule is:

LAX-MIA (A319) 1x daily [soon to be discontinued]
SFO-MIA (752) 1x daily [soon to be discontinued]
DEN-MIA (733, 735, A319) 2x daily
ORD-MIA (733, A320) 2x daily
IAD-MIA (733, A319, A320) 3x daily

I believe several years ago UA used to fly LAX-MIA with a daily 777. The flight continued down to South America if I remember correctly. But with the recently announced cuts to domestic and international service to/from the Miami station by UA, all that will be left if the schedule above.

I think I read somewhere that the LAX/SFO-MIA service will be seasonal only.
Someone please inform me if I am mistaken.

Thanks!

DL has a ATL-MCO flight that uses a 777, Flight 157. I'm sure there's a return flight as well.

LAX-JFK LAX-LGA?

Not currently on the former.

The latter can only be operated on weekends, where the traffic is not sufficient to warrant 777 service.

I flew LAX-DFW on AA in a 777 in Aug. I was on a coach ticket and somehow ended up in Business Class. It was definitely coach service, but it was nice to have a business class seat for once.

I believe several years ago UA used to fly LAX-MIA with a daily 777. The flight continued down to South America if I remember correctly

Right on both counts. This was the case in Fall 2002, and likely beyond. The South American leg went to two cities - GRU and EZE are what I recall, but one of them might have been GIG instead. The benefit of this arrangement was getting an international-class-configured 777 LAX-MIA. This was the same situation as LAX-IAD, since that flight continued to AMS. The flight now entails a change of planes (both 777s), so it's possibly a domestic 777 LAX-IAD.

I think I read somewhere that the LAX/SFO-MIA service will be seasonal only.

As mentioned elsewhere, UA is de-hubbing MIA, so the flights are obviously getting scaled back.

On another note, ATL-MCO is an oft-cited opportunity to fly a DL 777.

09/06/2004 I flew DAL 156 from MCO to ATL. Originally scheduled as a 767-2 however, airport was shutdown for 2.5 days hence, they needed extra seats so in came a triple seven! I was a standby pax and luckily got on!!! I was SIKED! even in coach, Trip-7's ROCK!

Then I had a MD 88 from ATL to SYR. Nice plane that MD88 but, nothing compares to the 777.

The AA 777 MIA-DFW-MIA is a great way to experience the triple-7 without having to put up with a long overnight flight. And if you're lucky (as I was once), you pay for coach but end up in the business class cabin with 5 feet of legroom!

DL flies the 777 from ATL to MCO, and for a while even flew it from ATL to LAX. Now they mainly fly it from:
ATL to NRT
ATL to FRA
ATL to CDG
CVG to CDG
ATL to LGW

Those are the ones that I know of right now, there maybe a few that I missed!

I believe the LAX-IAD 772 runs are int'l config, as it's a premium market for UA (especially int'l passengers). Not sure on that, but it make sense to me. We'll probably see p.s. on that route if it works out ok in JFK.

AA currently flies the 777 domestic on these routes:

LAX-DFW-LAX
MIA-DFW-MIA
DFW-ORD-DFW

Two previous routes:

LAX-MIA-LAX
LAX-JFK-LAX

The flight is sold as a 2-class service (First/Coach). The business class seats are part of the main cabin, and can only be reserved in advance by AAdvantage Elite members (Gold, Plat, Exec Plat) and full fare tickets. However, on the day of departure they're up for grabs. So if you see yourself on one of these routes, ask the check-in agent if any of the business class seats are available.

I've flown UA's 772 on a domestic sector LAX-MIA, but that was a couple of years ago now. The flight continued on to GIG with the same flight number, but there was an aircraft change to a 767 for those continuing beyond MIA. The crew announced this as a "through flight", which seems a bit odd really. Anyway - it no longer operates - shame!

Hey

LGA cant hold the 777 maybe you ment EWR??

but from EWR Co has flown in the past not sure if still

EWR-MCO
EWR-SJU
EWR-LAX
EWR-IAH

from JFK there used to be

UAL JFK-LAX
JFK-DEN
JFK-ORD

AA JFK-SJU
JFK-ORD
JFK-DFW
JFK-LAX

i dont think there is currently any 777 service from New York to LAX but there is CO T7 EWR-IAH. Delta used to use the 777 from JFK-MCO or ATL.

You might be able to find a AA flight from JFK-LAX.

A domestic service is JFK-IAD with Saudia Ariabian which is usally opperated by the 744 but some times with 777.

Did BA ever fly JFK-BOS-LHR with the 777 or 744?

FriendlySkies & MakeMinesLAX:

When I flew LAX-AMS via IAD last summer (UA946), the LAX-IAD leg was operated by a 747-400. There was a plane change at Dulles during the lay-over, however (it went to a 777). Both these flights were fantastic as my traveling party and I were able to be seated in United First! I believe the 747 we came in on from LAX went back to LAX as UA947 (the continuing leg of AMS-LAX via IAD). As of right now, the entire route (LAX-IAD-AMS) is operated by a 777, and after checking on United's SkyNet, the domestic leg is indeed operated by a 3-class 777 in both directions.

Our return flight was AMS-ORD-LAX. The AMS-ORD was a 767-300 (seated in Business this time), followed by a 2-class 767-300 ORD-LAX (in United First).

I'm somewhat saddened that as of later this year UA946/947 IAD-AMS will be downgraded to a 767-300 (as has been mentioned in another discussion) for the low season. It is interesting to note, though, that the LAX-IAD portions of 946/947 will remain a 777.

Hope this clears up some information.

Cheers!

The last SFO/LAX-MIA 777 flight was March 16, 2003. It was then converted to a 763. It has since been downguaged to domestic aircraft following the slicing of the MIA international routes.

Squirrel83,
That flight is supposed to be a 777. There must have been a change for some reason. Its not uncommon at all for a 747 to do that route.

Would anybody happen to know if that 777 is the pacific or the Atlantic configuration? Also as I have never been on a domestic AA 777 how is the business class? The DFW-LAX-DFW flight that is.

Thanks in advance!

UA also did an ORD-MIA segment on 777s. I flew it back in Sept 2000. The flight number continued onto SCL, but there was an aircraft change. Funny thing was, the flight I was on from ORD to MIA was late, and I ended up missing my flight (with the same flight number) to SCL.

UA Also flies the 777 DEN-IAD and DEN-HNL.

Apparently AA sells only two classes on their 777 domestically. So if you purchase a Buz class ticket you will end up in First Class. But if you purchase a Coach class ticket you can end up either in Buz or Coach seats. If you purchased your tickets directly throguh AA go to their website http://www.aa.com and change your seat to rows 9-14 thats business class.

It was the best 3 hour flight (DFW-MIA) paying Coach and flying on anice Buz seat.

As I mentioned before, UA does indeed fly DEN-IAD with 777 service. However, DEN-HNL is NOT currently flown with a 777. It is a 767-300.
