UPS's major hub is in Louisville KY (KSDF), the have sorting facilities at KRFD and KCAE that i know of. they have a west coast hub at KONT although i'm not sure if thats a sorting facility or not. they also have a hub at PANC with a crewbase there.

there may be a few more that i've missed.

Some of the long hauls from the US are PHL-Colgone, SDF-Colgone (during peak) ANC-Hong Kong, Syndey, Tokyo
rather than that most int go thru PANC....
We do have 1 md-11 "round the world" fight each day from SDF_Colgone Germary-Hong Kong
We just got 2 more md-11's online and will be going PANC-china 2x per week starting end of october if this Helps

FedEx does ANC-EWR with MD11s. I've seen UPS do EWR to Manchester England (I believe - might have been Birminghan) too with the 763.

The only one I know for sure is FedEx running a lot of Shanghai - ANC flights. Lots of people (including me) with orders in for a new G5 iMac have been watching these flights a lot. Apparently they also operate out of the old Navy base at Subic Bay, which will bring back memories of those old enough to be in the Navy "back then".

Trevd,
UPS like fedex is trying to get any MD-11 we can at a decent price....Boeing really should have made more of these...people at SDF like them better than the 767 long hauls we have...easier cans to deal with...with china opening up UPS is looking for more big long hauls (for some reason our new A300's only do a couple of long hauls..most of them do domestic runs)

FedEx operates non-stop flights from Paris to Subic, Memphis-Narita, Osaka-Memphis plus a host of others. PVG flights go direct ANC as well as Subic. Hong Kong flights come from a variety of places around Asia in addition to ANC.

From the USA, FDX has intercontinental flts from at least MEM, IND, EWR, ANC, OAK and LAX.
From the US, they have direct flts to FRA, CDG and STN (all MD11)

You asked where the flight to HKG originates from. This is NRT. They have many cargo flights flying there. I don't know the situation of Fedex and KIX but I hear that air cargo business in KIX is the only business that is profitable right now so perhaps............ Also I saw a lot of Fedex MD11's at ICN.
Flown on: DC-10-30, B747-200B, B747-300, B747-300SR, B747-400, B747-400D, B767-300, B777-200, B777-200ER, B777-300

UPS only fly L/H to the UK from PHL and SDF to EMA (main UK hub) and STN. Other flights operated to UK by UPS are from CGN.

UPS have major US hubs in Louisville (their biggest); Philadelphia; Ontario, Ca ; Rockford, Il ; Columbia, Sc ; Dallas, Tx ; Hartford, Ct.
Their European hubs are Cologne (again, the biggest); Nottingham EMA, UK ; Stansted, UK ; and Paris.
All inter European routes originate or end in Cologne apart from EDI>EMA>CDG>BGY>ATH (with another 757 doing a cross-over). Thats why Cologne is so big.
They have an MD11 that routes USA>CGN>India>Far East and another going in the opposite direction as a cross over.
They have B767-300s that route I think:
SDF>PHL>EMA>CGN
CGN>EMA>PHL>SDF
SDF>(PHL?)>STN>CGN
CGN>STN>SDF
SDF>CDG>CGN
CGN>CDG>SDF

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up ktachiya! I was mainly concerned if there were any FedEx flights from North America direct to HKG.

How about LAX. I saw a photo of a lot of FedEx aircraft at the cargo terminal in LAX. What role does LAX play in FedEx worldwide network?

STandard disclaimer, its been a couple years since i was extremely familiar with the FedEx flight sked, but....

PLaces like NRT, HKG< KIX, ICN, and TPE had direct MD-11's to ANC, which would then transload at the hub there and continue on to their appropriate US hubs and regional sorts (EWR, IND, LAX, OAK, ORD, and of course MEM). Aircraft would normally head down from ANC to say HKG, NRT, etc... drop a large chunk of cargo off, pick some intra-asia freight, head to the Subic sort, then return to the other cities from which they originated, and on to the US. THen theres the uber long hauls CDG-SFS and KIX-MEM.

Europe works a little different as they run from EWR, IND< and MEM to CDG hub for the most part, one or two used to stop in PIK and STN on the way.

What?

ANC is a major cargo stopover between the US and Asia Just about every major cargo carrier has large ops there, and of course UPS and FedEx both have large, large hubs.

Also, ANC is generally in the great circle path between the continental US and Asian destinations.

What about MIA? Does UPS fly to South American from MIA? Also does Fed Ex fly international from FLL or MIA?

What about UPS flights out of ONT and LGB to HNL and HNL Nadi, Sydney, Inchon with 76, and 74's

The A300s weren't bought for long hauls thats why they are not used for them. With 72's and DC-8's being retired the A300's are filling the role between the 75 and 76. A300's are being used in European ops at the moment.

MIA is UPS' latin Hub.

Actually ANC is a pit stop for flights between Europe and Asia as well. ANC has the distinction of being roughly equidistant to Japan, Europe, and the lower 48 United States.
