There was NOT a suspect package on board like posted before, it was a bomb threat called in to the airline and after searched they found nothing.

No news reports I have seen have said there was no bomb on the plane. They are still searching.

Don't jump to conclusions. A lot of people here seem to assume that it's impossible a bomb could ever be on a plane and that all bomb scares must be hoaxes. Well, history has proven that thinking wrong time and time again. Just because one story says "a bomb has not yet been found" doesn't mean there definitively isn't one.

The story is still unfolding and the search ongoing according to the reports I'm reading. It will probably end up being a hoax, but you can never be sure.

UAL747DEN Thanks for the update, as far as I know so far a call was made to a greek newspaper who forwarded the threat onto the airline, onto the captain who chose to make a mayday, and a emergency landing.

Apparently all pax are safe which is the good news will let you know when i find out some more.

Nick

BTW Stansted not Stanstead!!

looks like they havent moved from airside still being intterogated in one of the hangars which the news describes as a dedicated hostage centre!

It looks on the news like it is parked on one of these stands possibly the one with the tu154 on it.

According to CNN the plane landed under "full emergency conditions". Gimme a break!

It's hardly an emergency landing and what is the difference between an "emergency" and a "full emergency". Is that like the "slightly pregnant"? Gotta love those reporters.

Let me give you the complete update.Flight 411 for Olympic Airlines departed from ATH on route to JFK around 13:00.About half and hour before 3 someone called the Ethnos daily newspaper and said that a bomb was on board the plane.Right away the newspaper informed Olympic and Athens Airport. Then the airline informed the pilot who desided to land at the nearest airport. He also ask the Royal Air Force to acompany him as it was done. The plane landed at London Stansted. After they checked it and found nothing and interviewed the passengers the flight was allowed to continue to New York,All 289 passengers and 12 cadin crew are ok and stayed calm during landing.
That is the story so far.The bad think is that it's the flight I usually take.

The latest on this story is that the plane is still at STN. The search is continuing and the passengers are being questioned. The bomb scare was issued to a Greek newspaper and was communicated to the Captain, who was in the vicinity of UK airspace at the time. He reported to the British authorities who scrambled 2 Tornado jets to escort the plane to STN (plus a helicopter). Upon landing there the 301 aboard were evacuated and the search started - this has thus gone on for the last 8 hours.

This is a scary sort of occurrence. It is not good news for severely troubled Olympic Airways at all.

It seems that they did it again....
According to the Greek news site www.in.gr ,
(Greek article http://www.in.gr/news/article.asp?lngEntityID=569538&lngDtrID=244) Today, as like last Sunday, the flight OA411 of Olympic Airlines from Athens to New York JFK made an emergency landing on Shannon airport in West Ireland. According to in.gr, someone called again a daily newspaper in Athens telling them that they put a bomb on the Olympic aircraft bound to the US.

I suppose that someone thinks it's funny diverting a Jet plane with 250 passengers, bumping some fuel, destroying the airline schedule and leaving the crew grounded for crewrest due to the expired duty hours...

Oops! My mistake there - I should have said Olympic Airlines, not Airways, as the name was changed last year to Airlines. I hope though that they find the perpetrator of this mischief.
