TWA Leaves, Air Wisconsin In?

Fri Mar 03, 2000 5:30 am

I was at Birmingham Alabama yesterday catching a flight to Atlanta and saw the last revenue TWA flight in BHM, with passengers and the last one out
(ferry flight) of BHM it was a taking computers and other equipment back to St. Louis. It was sorta sad to see only few people get off the plane for the last time and see the employees upset. (I have flown this route many times) I went over and started talking to them and they said that Air Wisconsin was moving in, in April. I was wanting to know if United was going to provide express flights here when they already have a 737 here twice a day from Chicago? Or are they going to drop the 737 in favor of the regional jets like CO did a few months back? Anyone know any info on Air Wisconsin's new routes in the future?

An excerpt from a UAL press release, full text at,10026,1528_509,00.html

Meanwhile, United Airlines will discontinue its service June 7 and be succeeded by United Express carriers June 8 in these five markets: Denver-Sioux Falls, Chicago-Birmingham, Chicago-Louisville, Chicago-Madison and San Francisco-Monterey.
--- snip ----
Birmingham-Chicago: two daily flights operated in regional jets by United Express carrier Air Wisconsin. The flights will be well-timed to permit convenient connections at O'Hare International Airport.

I assume the Chicago-Birmingham is the one you're referring to, which will be replaced by UE

CO still has two regular CO (737) flights to IAH per day. Also two additional regional jets to IAH and two to EWR. It is sad to see UA leave BHM. They have been here a long time and at one time had many flights each day.
