United New Livery 757-200

Mon Sep 27, 2004 11:15 am

My favorite shot of the new UA livery. Any news of the 747-400 rolling out?

I've heard in previous threads that we can expect to see one come out sometime in November 2004, if I remember correctly.

Cheers!

Anyone know what 744 reg. # will be the first to get the new livery?

I rode on N174UA, IAD-FRA on 7/3/04...anyone know when this bird will get repainted?
And the winner for best actress is....REESE WITHERSPOON for 'Walk the Line'!!!!!!!!

It may or may not roll out by then if UA does not start to any sort of profit. They are still posting big negative numbers at the end of the past few quarters and have asked for yet another extension from the BK court. So why paint planes and get them ready for the desert or for sale.

Why does everyone like this new livery so much??? Excluding the tail (looks good and Ted's tail looks good), this livery looks like some kid went to work with watercolors and stopped halfway up.

Same thing with NW's new livery, now all a/c look like cargo birds.

I really hope UA paints a 744 in the new colors soon...they keep showing a TV commercial that shows a UA 744 flying in the new colors (its a cartoon drawing, but still). I heard November was the month they would give a 744 the new colors. Can anybody confirm this?

Easy....its more colourful then the previous colour scheme. I wonder what the B744 will look like in the new colours.

The first 747 goes to the paint shop mid-November, and I believe it is N174UA. Can't wait to see it!

I noticed that UA has redone most of their ticket counters and gate areas in the new colors/scheme also, and it looks very nice and professional. I wish some of these other carriers (like AA) would clean up their act. The last city I flew through had a missing "A" on the wall -- MERICAN, and all these tacky posters stuck on the wall.

I was attempting to fly Boston-ORD yesterday (flying ID90) and I almost got on a newly painted 757. I was so excited to have a chance to fly on it, but ended up not making the flight. Anyway, the paint job on this aircraft was particularly interesting because the very tip of the nose was still in the old livery. Also, I thought the livery looked amazing so close up - particularly on the 757!

DAYGS,

I wish some of these other carriers (like AA) would clean up their act.

I couldn't agree more. When I fly BOS-SFO, the UA terminals are in so
much better condition compared to the AA ones... at both airports.

DAYGS and SNATH, that is so funny that you mention the differences between the two terminals. Yesterday when I was attempting to fly out of Boston and constantly had to go back and forth from AA and UA(which was no fun with the extra security search each time.) I much prefered the UA terminal over AA's. I couldn't believe that AA, who has a pretty strong presence at BOS, still had such dingy and outdated looking ticket counters.

UA's "new" ticket counters really aren't that new.

They started to roll out in 1998 and were implemented in most stations by 1999/2000.

Again, the new livery is merely the culmination of a comprehensive re-branding process to the /// U N I T E D image so familiar to us today.

Wrong. UA is painting planes when they are going in for their checks. At these times, the plane is stripped of paint to inspect the skin. When they are finished, the new livery is applied instead of the battleship grey.

So this topic is on the UA 757 in new colors.

There are 14 replies thus far.

4 are about them painting a 744 and 5 are about ticket counters.

Great job on staying on topic people.  Smile

Anyone know what 744 reg. # will be the first to get the new livery?

These questions were specifically answered in a thread I started a while back. If you click my screenname, then search my post, look for thread starters, then UA paint.

November 15th is when the first 747-400 goes to paintshop. Heard this from a few insiders at the UAL Denver Flight Training Center.

The update in colorschemes is great! So far the fleet looks much better in the new wardrobe. The 757 is probably the best looking.

Yes, I agree. And the result is usually a bad first impression and a questionable overall airline image which can lead to predispositions and thus can be huge factors in the self-fulfilling prophecy process, especially for first timers on a new airline. Sometimes it's the little things that count.
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!
