Buy-on-Board...I'm Not Talking About Food

Mon Sep 27, 2004 12:39 pm

Ok I'm showing my youth a little here with this question....I was talking with some of my family not to long ago and they told me something that I could not believe. They said that "way way back" in the 1970's, on some airlines you could but your ticket on board and pay the F/A's. Is this true? I know that it would impossible to think about that these days, but I could see back then like a SouthWest or PEOPLExpress doing some thing like that. I really want to know if this is true, or it was a bunch of BS that was thrown at me, thanks

This is true. It was started by PeopleExpress, and America West also
did that for a while.

The DCA-LGA-BOS shuttles operated by Eastern had a similar policy back in the 1960's and maybe later.
"Let me think about it" = the coward's way of saying "no"

The original Midway Airlines out of MDW, used to allow that. But like all good things people F*** it up and the policy was discontinued. They had a credit card slide machine and carbon paper slips. I remember seeing it under the last row of seats on the DC9's.
