Business Lounge Does Not Announce Flights

Mon Sep 27, 2004 7:29 pm

I am sitting in the Spanair Business Lounge in Madrid Barajas in Terminal 2. I couldn't believe my ears when on checking in at reception I was told that for the "comfort" of the passengers in the lounge, since the 1st September they no longer announced the boarding or last call of flights!

Madness. Besides, of course there is only one screen with boarding information on which is visible from only a few seats. so, for my comfort I have to keep getting up and down to see if the boarding of my flight has started.

Great move Spanair. Of course - there are no interruptions from loud mobile phone and telephone conversations going on around me - no!!!! Not at all !!!!

This is the same for a lot of airlines. Many North American airlines do not announce flights in their lounges except for key international flights. Can you imagine all of the flights that would have to be announced at, for example, a DL Crown Room Club in ATL or an AA Admirals Club in DFW?

In the SilverKris lounge in Singapore, there are no call for flights. You have to look at the board continuesly waiting for the 'Now Boarding' sign to come up.

I remeber this as when we were travelling from BNE-SHA via. SIN back in 2002, we had a 5 hour layover in the lounge. Mum fell asleep, i was drousy, when suddenly 'Now Boarding' flashes up on the screen! We leave a few minutes later and embark on our 15 minute walk, thinking that we're going to miss the flight, only to find about ten people in the waiting loung!

EK makes announcements for it's flights in DXB I've found though........

Well for SQ, from experience, they usually only announce it at the very last call, arguing that it is the most comfortable mode a passenger can have, to avoid any wait on the gate or the aerobridge. But for sure, it is not comfortable at all, due to the rush we have to be in if we become unaware of our flight times.

I don't know why airlines are doing this, but certainly, there are better ways of putting passengers on greater comfort and convenience. Lol  Smile

It's better that way. Imagine if you are in a lounge, and every two minutes another flight is announced. That would be absurd. Solution in simple. Know when your flight is leaving, ask the agent at the desk if it is on time, and leave the lounge accordingly.
