KLM MD-11's... Starting To Be Retired?

Tue Sep 28, 2004 12:50 am

I've just seen pics of PH-KCB arriving in Xiamen China and was told its for freighter conversion, the aircraft is in FULL scheme.

Not sure about you guys but I've heard nothing about the KLM MD-11's being converted. So, is this true? Is A still flying?

Sorry but i don't believe the man who took the picture than  Wink/being sarcastic can you please post a link of the photo?

the first KLM MD-11 is due to retire in 2012, maybe its just 1 of the 2 proposed MD-11's to be converted, but its very unlikely since the article about the KLM conversion for MP was about 2 years ago and never was official

I have just talked to a KLM MD-11 captain and he told me they expect the MD-11 to be in service until 2012. Sounds really long, probably the fleet will be slighty reduced in the coming years until the final end.

Maybe PH-KCB is out for a D-check?

KLM MD-11 routes, as of summer 2004 (possible changes since mid-September):

- Aruba (5 weekly)
- Bonaire-Guayaqil-Quito (5 weekly)
- Bonaire-Lima (6 weekly)
- Delhi (daily)
- Lagos (daily)
- Minneapolis/St.Paul (daily)
- Montreal (daily)
- San Francisco (daily)
- Vancouver (daily)

Hey

to add to the list it also did JFK a couple of times during the summer.

Maybe the MD-11 in Xiamen for its D-check or re-painting, or being configured to a combi?? Also maybe new interior?

Udo,

Starting this winter, at some point the Delhi, San Francisco and Lagos flights will be replaced by the 777.
On Vanvouver and Montreal, the MD11 is downsized to a 767.
On the daily AMS-Kilimanjaro-Dar-Es-Salaam-AMS flight, the MD11 will replace the 767.
The MD11 is also new this winter to Accra, and the 3rd daily AMS-MSP run will be handed over to Northwest.
Nairobi still has a mix of 777s, 767s and MD11s.

The M11 fleet is going for its (second) D-check with Taeco.

Big contract with Chinese industry signed a few months ago.

First D checks were performed by SR technics 5 yrs ago.

KLM E&M does do light maintenance, painting, components and CF6 engines on the M11, but outsources D-checks.

Martinair is getting a different M11.
