Did The MD-11 Get A Nose Job?

Tue Sep 28, 2004 8:50 am

After looking at a picture of the MD-11 the other day, I was wondering: with all the other design changes, did Mac Air redesign the DC-10's front end when it made the MD-11? It seems a little, I dunno, pointier and more refined. Am I wrong?

Definitely refined, and not only the nose, but every other aspect.

I think it depends on your perspective and the c/s..
Caution wake turbulence, you are following a heavy jet.

While the supplier may have changed as well as the construction, the shape and geometry of the radome is the same. There was no need to change it's shape.

One change that occured was having the windshield wipers stow vertically on the MD11 rather than horizontally like the DC10 (and all types I can think of) to reduce drag.
You're only as good as your last departure.
